Default Hitch Wiring - External plug options?

I suppose this is the place to put this one. I'm looking to add a trailer hitch to my 2010 CX-7 Touring, and have shopped around for various hitch wiring harnesses. They all seem to be designed to be left inside then hung out the back when in use.

Has anyone found a harness or figured out a way to get the plug mounted outside, on the hitch? I'd prefer this much more than having to hang wires out the back when I've got something hooked up. I've found some how-tos that allow this on the CX-9, and I'm wondering if anyone has done the same with the CX-7.

Did exactly that with my 2010 GT. I purchaced the factory pig tail from Mazda which plugs right in the stock harness, the connection is behind the right rear plastic trim panel in the cargo area. It then goes through a hole in the floor which is sealed with a rubber plug. Very ease do it yourself install.

Thanks for the reply!

Do you have any sense of whether a non-OEM plug would be able to do the same? I'm mostly concerned with sealing around the pass-through point. Or am I better off just getting the Mazda pig tail and going with it?

I went with the Mazda plug just for the clean and instalation but I dont see any reason you cant use any other plug, you just have to probe the wires and splice it into the harness. If I remember right I think theres already a rubber plug in the right rear floor to run the wires through, forgive my memory as I did mine four years ago shortly after purchace.
