What do I think? I think that if it is grounded and cannot be, there are easy fixes.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Ok, so you do have a kickass product, @StayBroke. But to sell here, you need to follow fs rules. I'd like you to check the group buy rules if you can make these in 45 days, ok? Pm me with any questions. This is for your protection and msf members as well. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Because the stock battery box and mounting hardware for the ECU is *not* grounded, I used all nylon hardware on my setup (see below). Thread: http://www.mazdaspeedforum.org/forum/foru...ocation-92280/ Relevant image: http://www.mazdaspeedforum.org/forum/foru...-installed.jpg (linked for size) It may not be an issue, but I'll be damned if I'm going to risk something that critical to the operation of my vehicle because I assumed it would be OK.

| Not Ranked : 0 score It's a Braille battery and bracket; the bracket has been modified so that the battery can be pulled straight out when the ECU is removed and another holding tab unbolted. Every bit of information regarding my setup should be in the thread (with pictures).

| Not Ranked : 0 score The factory ecu is not grounded, so I agree with Enki that it is best to err on the side of caution. To the best of my knowledge, however, most (including all the Mazda info I can find, lot of rx-7 info available) are grounded. Better safe than sorry though. Nylon ftw. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Pics of said battery box are posted in our forum. We have made other battery box setups for those using the braille or odyssey pc680 batteries, but chose to stick with a full size battery for its CCA abilities. If someone wanted a small battery setup we'd be more than happy to whip one up. I would never relocate to the trunk, adds to much weight, and you'll need a cut-off switch if you ever go to the track and tech catches you. Matt |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I'm glad to see you addressed the grounding issue. You do not want your ECU grounded; the potential for very bad things can result from a grounded ECU. Have your exhaust welded on if you'd like to see what I'm talking about. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score The ECU is already grounded through the wire harness....ALL ECU's are grounded. There is no continuity from the ECU backing plate to any part inside that ECU. The reason it is not grounded from the factory is because they are using a plastic battery tray to mount it to. That's it. No other fancy reason. And James is right on the part that ANY and EVERY car should not be welded on without disconnecting the battery first. Matt |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I made my small battery box and ECU mount a while ago. It never even occurred to me that the ECU was not grounded from the factory, until I stumbled upon this thread. I was having problem with what I thought was spark blow out, just some slight hesitation at WOT, in fact I could not catch them on a log, it would would just hesitate for a micro second. After reading this thread, it makes sense to me that there was some reason that Mazda did not ground the ECU through the case. So, I bought some fiber washers and nylon spacers and isolated the ECU. Guess what? The hesitation went away. Is this conclusive proof that this will happen across the board? Well, no, but @HTP think of it this way, if Mazda did it this way, then there almost has to be a reason. Car manufactures spend millions of dollars to perfect and prove their engineering, and well, there is not a company out there that has that kind of resources to devote to engineering. Take this for what it's worth, my .02 cents, add an vibration isolator for the ECU to your kit, and do not ground the ECU.

| Not Ranked : 0 score As you'll see the only thing that touches the case and the board is a thermal paste that IS NOT electrically conductive. Mazda engineers used the aluminum backing plate as a heat sink. Last edited by HTP; 06-12-2012 at 12:41 PM. Reason: grammar |

Our battery kit utilizes a nylon insert in between the ecu and box because I don't expect everybody to agree with me and I'm not gonna beat a dead horse. Matt
