Default England15j's SP63 10.6:1 CR GTX3071 Build

Back story.

September 5th while on my back for logging I noticed a pulse in the clutch pedal and knew the motor was done for.

The following day I did a compression test and pulled the oil pan to verify the bent rod I suspected and to see if any other damage had occurred and found #2 had in fact bent.

Compression test results 1-4
175-160-145-170

September 20-21 pulled the motor and packaged it up for shipment to Speed Performance.

September 22 motor was shipped out.

October 6 upon tear down rods 1/2 were found to be bent and ringland on #3 are broken explaining the low compression results.

This is going to be a great fun build!

Unfortunately at that power level any misstep is very costly and England15j knew this very well. Prior to this set of logs WMI stopped spraying on the previous iteration half way through a run on 92 fuel and this is what caused the initial damage. Wrote a post about it below. This new build will have a lot more headroom and be inherently safer because of this.

If you want to make power then i suggest staying away from the Steedspeed manifold. Its been proven time, and time again that the stock location Steedspeed manifold is a HUGE restriction, and you will likely make more power with a stock exh manifold than with that manifold. Just trying to save you from a headache in the long run.

That steed speed is going to F your couch even worse with the high compression Pistons.

The steed speed is so poor in flowing any exhaust volume that you can see up to 2000*F EGT's on stock Conpression Pistons.

Running that steed speed will end this builds life real fast.

Look into the CP-e manifold.

I really appreciate it, I did some quick research on it before making the purchase and didn't find anything bad except that the only place I could find it for sale was Sure I guess that should have thrown up a red flag in itself.

Gah, didn't even notice that Steedspeed in your build. Thanks guys for pointing this out - the CPE is a much better piece.

I know you did some work on the IWG of the turbo but if it's in the budget an EWG is both better flowing and allows better boost control and the CPE manifold enables this.

How many miles were on this motor?

That drop in power up top in the Vdyno you posted even before the bent rods - I've seen this happen with broken ringlands. We were likely working with a wounded cylinder all along.

In that case the loss of WMI+the heat present in that multi gear run must have done it. I run the tunes "fat" because of the brittle OEM pistons at these power levels but that single event was enough. After this more than ever I recommend WMI failsafes when pushing for power.

Exact reason I purchased one unfortunately it was too late for the old motor. I know now there is no way I would be fast enough to detect/stop a failure in progress.

I thought about building it myself but given I have zero knowledge about assembling a motor and only having the funds to do this once plus all the tools/equipment I would need to do this didn't make this a logical choice for this particular incidence. I would love to get a longblock and build it while having a functioning car and that was the plan over the next year to do but I wasn't that fortunate.

So I talked with John at Tork about a built motor since he is so close and is experienced. I was all for it until I found out his longblock price was north of $6k so that was out of the question.

I talked with @Lex; about who he had good experience/results from and he recommended SP63 and with all the work I wanted done It was the most economical choice for what I needed and it fit my timeline.

Clutch arrived today and motor is scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Planned install is this weekend.
