Default Broken Shifter

Did your shit break off and flop like a loose dick?

Great! So did mine!

03/04/2012 with approx. 58,000 miles.

Please post your info so I can build up a list of everyone it has happened to so I can make some kind of noteworthy attempt at getting Mazda to own up.

Also, please post a vehicle safety complaint here:

My twm short shifter came in. I hate that my old one broke, but I'm
Glad it did. This new shifter and bushings are beast mode!

Let's keep this just for broken shifters like Dash's and this guy's. I want a list to flame Mazda with until we get a recall or reimbursement.

To answer the question (it's in my thread,) Mazda told me no b/c it's not part of the powertrain.

Make a new thread for that link, summarize what it is, and I will sticky it for you.

FWIW, I filed 32 or more complaints to NHTSA with my POS GMC Sonoma along with about 150 others posted there, and nothing happened.

However, I think if we start filing it for the shifter, along with VVT and turbo, might get action.

@ak_spray, post the thread.

how the heck u break ur shifter? gears should shift in smooth, and if its in gear there is no need to push the shifter any harder.

........
It's a failure point where the cast aluminum alloy has been weakened by a.) the pin that keeps it from popping out/anti-reverse and b.) being pushed down and popped up to go into reverse.

Mizzle,

When i had my shifter replaced, they didn't give me a receipt. They just replaced it and said here you go, have a nice day.

For the life of me, I can't recall the date it happened. I can only tell you how it happened.

It definitely broke at the same spot as yours. Right at the lockout pin.

The only difference that I can see is that I was still under my bumper to bumper warranty. This should be covered under powertrain IMO.

EDIT: Filed a complaint at that site for you, man.

I was actually looking more towards getting the assembly @rfinkle2 loaned out back to him as he's offered it to me as a replacement.

Are you done with it yet?

p.s.
We really need solid bushings on the trans brackets.

Yikes.

Eppopipe told me about 2 days ago that the R&D involved not being able to use the shifter any longer.

I apologize Mizzle, I thought if he had not started R&D yet, you could certainly have it.

Same thing happened to me today with my 08 MS3 with 44k miles. Broke in the exact same spot.

BTW, does anyone know the part number for this?

Sheesh. Cannot believe people keep stock shifter. 50,000 miles or so on my E4 Performance shifter no problem. But many other companies have shifters...

I'm surprised mine held to 103k considering how many have broke. I'm a cheap mother fucker and have considered welding it, I'm definitely going to look into the E4 though, 125 is alot better than 275 for the cobb sts.
