| Not Ranked : 0 score what you measure there is the chain stretch and regardless of the VVT model, the chain wear out after a while and when the hydraulic retainer is fully extended, it is really time to replace it. Similar to timing belt but it can handle slightly more miles. Checking slack there isn't the best as the oil pressure is down...The mark on the VC is to me, a better sign or the noise at start.... The VVT had an updated version that you can read about with a search here. There is a lot of infos about it. the revised version is better for sure but it may not last forever. It isn't impossible that a high mileage revised version need replacement too....You need to remove it for inspection if you want a complete diagnosis...

| Not Ranked : 0 score The chain is stretched and/or the tensioner is going bad. If you're gonna replace the chain (and you'd want to) get a new: - OEM chain - tensioner - diamond washers (3 for the crank, 2 for the camshafts) - you'll need a new crank bolt because it's a torque to yield bolt (or just get the ARP 251-2501 one and never replace it because it's not a TTY bolt) - "C" revision VVT (L3K9-12-4X0C) or get the DCR VVT - maybe chain guides - check them This is not an easy job, there are a lot of tricks in order to do it right, especially setting the chain tension. P.S. this weekend I'll complete my guide on how to modify a new "C" revision OEM VVT to make it like the DCR one and not pay them $350 for what is essentially a modded $100 OEM VVT. Well, at least I hope I'll complete it haha
