Default JDM engine swap. Will it pass CA emissions?

Blew up my engine, so I'm planning to buy a JDM engine with 50k miles and swap that in. It's a long block, with turbo and all accessories included, so it *should* be an easy drop in. Will it pass California emissions? For example, EGR? Anything else I should ask the seller before committing to the purchase? Can someone who has done this before share their experience? Somehow I cannot find many posts on this...

is there really any difference with a jdm engine with these cars?

people part these cars out like they are going out of style, you should be able to find something here.

experiences with JDM engines could be win or fail as like any other used engine bought without warranty...
I got 2x KL from them in Canada, the first one was better but both times i had surprises later on....Not the performance cams expected. Got a very used engine the second time and get it replaced after almost a fight and got one without performance head nor the cams....
Those was without emission but we talk about more than a decade ago.....

You could take no chances and swap everything electronics from your old engine to make sure it will work.
And I would check the timing chain and bender at bare minimum and probably think about putting a new chain/VVT in it while the engine is out of the car....

If you look for a cheap option, getting one from a junkyard with a minimum warranty is probably the best one over jdm...

For JDM story, I even saw a guy looking for the reason why is jdm kl engine wasn't performing and figured out he got a 2.0l instead of a 2.5... This was for KL engines but i did see some 2.0l with direct injection from overseas....just make sure you really get a 2.3l turbo engine, nothing else....My experience let me learn that they can go very far to make money...

If you check for leaks and you didn't made a test under compressor pressure, you aren't done checking for leaks....

Swap over all your electronics, smog nazis won’t know the difference if there are any with this “JDM” engine.
