Default Lost second gear today.....

Wow this sucks, driving home from work I took off from a red light and when i shifted into 2nd it grinded like i missed the shift... tried again and the same thing. So I just went to 3rd and tryed to downshift back into 2nd and was greeted by a loud clanking and metal breaking noise! I guess Im the first to have a tranny problem like this, I've looked everywhere and haven't heard of the same problem!

you know...i have a similar problem and i think my second gear will eventually go. for instance, if i'm breaking in 2nd, chances are it'll pop out. every now and then it'll grind. have you had any problems with it popping out?

You have a bent syncro, your right it's gonna eventually get alot worse. Since you know ahead of time and can live with it I'd start looking for a tranny from a wrecked car and while its going to be off grab a clutch and flywheel. its gonna be cheaper than opening up the gear box. depending on what you can get the tranny for.

Had this issue <10k they replaced the trans.
Had it again 50k miles later, replaced 2nd gear synchro.

It gets really annoying in traffic when it pops out while slowing down.

I should know tomorrow whats going on with it.... the messed up part is they made me drive it knowing that it was all busted and it made it even worse, 2nd is probably the most needed gear in this damn car.... I have to shift out of first at 4.5k to shift into 3rd at 2k. If they try to say its not covered then I'm not sure what I'm gunna do but all the people at the dealership are going to be pissed when i scare all their customers away! lol nah anyone got any tips?

Before I had my silver Ms3 I owned a black 07 Ms3. I bought it in florida from my cousin who owns a used car dealership. I drove it up to Ny with no problems, car had about 7k on it when my whole transmission went. I was just driving normal one morning to work and the tranny was just shifting like shit I thought it was me but it lasted the whole day. I did a few launches on it but didn't miss any gears or anything, problem just started randomly. You could barely shift into any gear but it did drive. I took it into the dealer maybe thinking it was the linkage but it turns out there was a hairline crack across the whole bottom of my tranny. Dealer took about 2 months to give me my car back, but in return I got a new tranny, clutch and flywheel under warranty, car was bone stock.

I know two people who have had synchros and gears replaced after having the same issues (I live in Cleveland)

both of them were replaced under warranty (both of them were '07 stock cars) BUT both dealers screwed up fixing it the first time. One of the trannys lost all the fluid, the other one kept grinding so 3rd gear also had to be replaced.

Be sure to talk to the rep and tell him about other cases, they can look it up in the system and warranty has to cover this.

BTW our theory behind this is that there is too much engine movement, especially when driving hard. I installed the SU rear engine mount a month after I got the car as well as the short shifter kit from TWM and I've only had issue in the cold weather - which have now been fixed with a COBB shifter weight and a TWM knob. Shifting improved A LOT

I've had Redline fluid for the last 6.000 miles, it improves operaton - highly recommended

I am not sure why anyone questions if it is covered under warranty. Also, Mazda saying that is was the last repair under warranty after the replaced the trans I would call the BBB.

They have zero reason to do that. There is not in my knowledge a clause in the warranty that states that they are in the clear once the fix your car once.

If a car is modded then ALL bets are off. Mazda should not be liable for these repairs. A lot of folks bitch and moan but have no more right than Mazda does to not warranty the trans when the car is stock.

I got the car fixed under warranty but the only explanation they would give me was premature wear and tear... I smell some BS... But they overhauled the tranny and replaced 2nd gear and the fork for it...

Good. I am glad to hear. We need to stand up to our rights. In my last subie I was getting a 2nd gear grind every now and again. It was a month or two away from the 5 year powertrain warranty and they fixed it like the warranty said.

They put in a new 1st and 2nd gear and snyros.

I took my car in for 4th gear grinding issues @20k miles and they rebuilt my entire tranny under warranty no questions ask. It's been running great ever since and I'm at 25k miles. The tech that rebuilt my tranny was really nice and ask me how I like the car and encouraged me to race it if I wasn't already because that's what its built for, etc. I actually get great service at the dealership I go to. I still would play it on the safe side and remove mods if you're going in for a warranty claim. I saw the bill it cost to rebuild my tranny and it was like $3,700, glad I didn't have to pay for it!

I had the 2nd gear popping out issue fixed today as a matter of fact.
10,700 miles on an MS6.

They didn't give me any trouble about it. Replaced 2nd gear and some ball bearings. That's all it says on the invoice.

I started having it happen when the car was around 6k, but it was very rare, past 2 weeks it became really common so I took it in. Here is the funny part. On the way to the dealer my rear diff started clunking. Yup, freshly busted bolts. They fixed that too.
