(Thread Starter) | ***** The Official Mazdaspeed Forums Short Shifter Thread ***** DISCLAIMER: This is an informative thread and a resource for gathering information on which form of shifter you may want (Short Shift Plate, Full Replacement, or just a simple stem). All-in-all it is up to you to decide on which form to go with. So you've decided that the factory shifting assembly is not up to your standard of performance. The following information will give you insight into what aftermarket parts you can buy for your specific model vehicle to transform the feel and performance of your shifter assembly. The Mazdaspeed platform has many different ways to adjust the height, distance of throw, and feel of the transmission while driving. We'll start at a very simple install and work up to the hardest level. For additional Information Please See The Following Contacts List For The Specific Vendor You Have In Mind: For CorkSport Performance Contact: @CorkSport CorkSport Mazda Performance Website Mazdaspeed Forums Vendor Area - Corksport For James Barone Racing Contact: @jbarone James Barone Racing Website Mazdaspeed Forums Vendor Area - JAMES BARONE RACING For TWM Performance Contact: @TWM Performance TWM Performance Website Mazdaspeed Forums Vendor Area - TWM Performance For COBB Tuning Contact: @Cobb Tuning @Evan@COBB @David@COBB COBB Tuning Website Mazdaspeed Forums Vendor Area - COBB Tuning ***** First Generation Mazdaspeed3 ***** Short Shift Plates The first way of adjusting the distance of the gear change (see: the "throw") is to add a SSP, an abbreviation for Short Shift Plate. The name is almost an exact description of the piece. A solid piece of metal with 4 holes in it that sits on top of the transmission housing connecting the linkage. There are currently 3 Companies who manufacture Short Shift Plates for the First Gen Mazdaspeed3. 1. James Barone Racing Price: $80.00 The Stage 1 Kit From Jamie Includes both the Plate AND a counterweight. (Thread Starter) | @Raider I looked on E4's website. There STS isn't listed anymore so I'd be a little skeptical about listing it if you can't find it. They have their counterweight shown so I'll add that to the list in the counterweight section.

| Not Ranked : 0 score How is the shift plate? I never even knew that there was such a thing. Only thought that you have to replace the whole gear box and stick if you wanted to reduce the throw. Anyone have any recommendations on which brand and if the short shift plate is worth it? |

| Not Ranked : 0 score The jbr short shift plate and shifter bushings don't specify the year while the ones for cork sport do. What are the differences between first and second gen? |

Can the OP be updated? The pictures are missing or out of date. All of the pictures on our website have been re-shot. Also some prices have changed. I can help if need be. -Sabrina | |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Hey All, I am using a Cork Sport shifter and aluminum base bushings. Can anyone recommend a way to get rid of the slop when in gear? The slop I mean is when the shifter is in gear there is a lot of play in the shifter. Will the plate help or do I have to go with a full TWM replacement?

| Not Ranked : 0 score Hello: I don't see a lot of activity here lately but hoping for some feedback. Is there an actual difference between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 short shift plates? I have only ever seen one listing (nothing specifying a certain year or gen)? And I don't see any mention of the Sure Short Shift Plate (https://www.suremotorsports.com/product-p/sure0513.htm). Has anyone used that option? I have heard that short shift plates can cause transmission or linkage damage. Is that the case or is that more incorrect installation? |

| Not Ranked : 0 score From what I gather, Sure gets shit on for a lot of stuffs. Read up on that. If you search on websites for short shift plates, cross reference the years and compare part numbers. Fuck being lazy. Best bet is to buy an actual short shifter as oppose to running a plate. I am rocking a Damond plate. JBR makes a real sweet short shifter that I keep eyeballing to replace my plate.

| Not Ranked : 0 score We have replacement short shifters for both the GEN 1 & 2. They are very reasonably priced too at $125 and $155 respectively. |
