Rockers adjustment

Hi all

We bought 08 Mazda3 Hatch Turbo.

78 000 miles.

Quite loud rocker noise. Curious, are rockers mechanically adjustable, like on Hondas, or it's strictly via lifters? We will have oil changed soon, hope, this will fix most of it, but if it can be adjusted, buddy is engine mech that can do this for us.

We don't have rockers. Our valves use DAMB - Direct Acting Mechanical Bucket.

Does it make noise all the time, or only at startup?

Fair enough.

As of the first few days of observation, it does this at startup - louder - and idling. Revs fix it. I figure it's low oil pressure or sticky lifters, as my assumption is, all buckets are is fancy lifters sitting between cam lobes and valves. Oil level is OK, but oil was changed at some jiffylube place and car was owned by some clown that obviously didn't take good care of it.

So, what we do about this and how to we accomplish two things - fix this and prevent this?

I'm leaning towards VVT actuator failure at this point. There's a TSB from Mazda for it: look it up on here (it's a bitch searching for it on my phone).

There are links to the TSB here on MSF and on the web at large. If you spent some time looking, you'd find them. Actually...fuck it. You're clearly not putting the effort in, so let me google that for your lazy butt.

If so, do not pass "Go", do not collect $200. Take the car to the dealer immediately and try get them to apply the TSB in question. The car is already 8000 miles over the limit specified by the TSB, but some dealers have been more lenient on that point than others.

In either case, be prepared to fork out between $500 and $1300 depending on the extent of the damage.

I think he's hearing the hpfp and has no idea what's going on. he thinks there are rockers in a ohc engine and thought the intake was connected directly to the tb in an turbo car...I think the car in his avi is the newest vehicle he's worked on before getting this car

VVT is $1200 at the dealer. If it fails, new motor runs 3500 used, $12000 installed at the dealer.

So if you want to disregard any advice, leave on that note.
