Default Unusual Engine Sound

Hello fellas. I tried to look for the ansewr to my question in the previous posts but couldnt find anything that would sattisfy me So here is the deal: Form time to time I hear sound from the engine, its like knocking/ticking sound, but it happens only when I start the car and it goes away after 2-3 sec. Should I be worried??BTW Tomorrow I planed to put my mods on, and idk if should put it on hold and bring the car to dealership...Thanks!

sounds like the injectors. rev the car up a little and you should here the sound for a little bit after the revs too. The injectors are loud on this car

shouldn't matter if he is out of warranty, a tsb is a known issue so they should fix it regardless. make sure to have them drive it a bit after they do the work, they mine back together out of time and i had to bring it back to them.

My powertrain was voided and they would not do the work under warrenty : ( they claimed $500 for the part and 8-10 hrs labor...fail...

Also for anyone wondering if they have this problem... The noise ONLY happens when starting the car and it will ONLY last for 2-3 seconds, so any other ticking noises while driving, stopping, or any other schenario isnt going to be this pin. Ill try to grab a sound clip so u guys can hear, its unmistakeable from any other noise coming from the car.

My mazda tech claimes that this will rob you of about 10-15 hp and lower your gas mileage.

Could there be any other more serious issues by having it broken?

if your car is NOT in the range indicated by that TSB that TSB does not apply.

I don't see why it couldn't happen to a differnt year model, boosted3 and myself were comparing the noise and it sounds exactly the same and his car doesn't fall into the catagory if that TSB

YouTube - MS3 VVT malfunction.
Hello all,

I know I don't post at all, but I thought I'd chime in on this one. I had this exact problem creep up on me about 1 1/2 weeks ago. I simply took it in and they verified that is was the variable valve actuator and fixed it up in one day. It was all covered through the warranty. I actually got a check engine light when I picked it up due to the timing being off. I had to take it back, but it got fixed up right away.

Ugh that sounds nasty. Also, I still can't believe how much the engine in this car moves. Thank God for aftermarket motor mounts!

I dont think they can just refuse a warranty repair like that. My understanding is that the law states they must be able toprove the damaged was caused by your mods. Considering there is a TEB and this is a known issue, your dealership is on some bullshit.
BTW i dont think mine does this. I will have to have someone else start it while i listen one day. My car is so damn loud its hard to tell ! I have one of the very first few built. I took delivery of mine in NOV 2006.
