Default 220HP supercharged 1.6 liter?

Sorry I wasn't sure exactly where to post this. My friend who goes through cars like a whore decided he is going to buy a '91 Mazda Miata off Craigslist. The car is advertised as being a supercharged 1.6 liter that puts out 220HP on 6 psi of boost, weighs 2100 lbs, will burn rubber at 100 MPH and has $25,000 invested. I'm not very familar with these cars but I can't see a 1.6 liter making 220 HP on only 6 psi on pump gas. What do you think? Wish I had more information for you.

Not true. It'll put about 160ish on 6psi of supercharged boost. Total lie. I've owned a '93 with a GReddy turbo kit that I messed around with. Don't believe the add.

'91 Miata's barely put down 100whp. I highly doubt he's getting 220 crank, much less whp from a 6psi blower. I had a '99 with a Jackson Racing kit putting out about 6psi and I only put down about 165whp w/header and exhaust (115 stock).

superchargers are usually not huge power getters for 4 cylinders. Correct me if i am wrong.

They don't need huge numbers, they usually give the car a GREAT curve. Lots of power in the low rpms.

Default Not likely

Very unlikely; 220 from a 'low boost' SC...point your browser to miata.net, and check out the FI section, if you'd like some datapoints. My 1.8 turbo miata, running 9 psi, runs ~ 200-210 HP, depending on the tune.

Just ~ 150-160 hp in a light-weight early Miata makes for big fun, though. And, as others have noted, the flat torque curve of an SC makes for great driving.

If your friend doesn't take your advice, tell him to have the seller provide a dyno chart at least. If the seller clams up, you're done. And if he coughs up the dyno chart, maybe he's still lying.
