Aftermarket Turbo Flow Rates - Informational List

Pretty sure we dont have one of these on our forums, since people are going bigger and bigger on a daily basis I think it would be nice for people to know were their turbo stands/flows etc.

Their is obviously some turbos we use here that are missing if anyone has the numbers for them.

Stock K04..........?
BNR S3 K04.............?
GTX2867R.........?

etc etc

Maybe a sticky somewhere? @Raider; @doubleflusher;

I added a few big FP's and corrected a few others.

PapaSmurf 01-07-2014 08:55 AM

I added what I could find on the GT2871 and GTX2867.

Anyone know where you can find K04, BNR Stage 2-3 info?

BNR website is blocked here at work and isnt iphone friendly haha.

Mazdazilla6 01-07-2014 09:22 AM

Here's EFR I don't see listed.

Borg EFR 6258..........44lb/min
Borg EFR 6758..........53lb/min
Borg EFR 7064..........56lb/min
Borg EFR 7163..........60lb/min

Also I don't flow rates on BNR's website but the s3 uses a gt28 chra and a 2871 comp wheel. And s1 uses only gt28 chra. But they have machined housings so that may bump rates up a bit.

Where are these flow rates taken from on the map and at what temperature and pressure?

Are they taken from the edge of the last island? I took a quick peek and saw that for example the Garrett 28 frame turbos are underrated.

im pretty sure its taken from the turbo being in its max efficiency.

so yes edge of the last island/line etc on the compressor map.

Above, the GT2871 is rated at 38 lbs/min.

http://www.himni-racing.com/images/gt2671r_comp_e.jpg

As you can see in the image above that relates to the edge of the maximum efficiency island (76%) and not as much as the turbo can ultimately flow which is around 45 lbs.

We often run these turbos well past the middle island and make power with them well past that thanks for cooling from intercoolers, WMI, and DI.

If we could only run 38 lbs worth of air from this turbo we'd only be able to get around 330-340whp (at 18-19psi on our motors) from it and that's only true if using Cali 91 octane for example. That turbo is capable of 400whp with E85 or WMI and the correct flow parts.

While some turbos in the list are rated to the very edge of operation others are rated to the centre island and that makes the comparison difficult. I would definitely consult the full map before deciding on a turbo. The EFR 6258 for example flows about as much as the GT2871 so it either has to be rated at 35 lbs (centre island) or the Garrett has to be rated at 45 in the list. With our cars and half decent fuel and cooling we can definitely operated outside that centre island.

I took the ratings off different maps for the 2871, I can make the changes.

This is basically a list to compare the max flow rate of a turbo without any aftermarket cooling and on pump gas etc. Everything is going to be different from car to car and engine to engine etc.

Its just giving everyone a basic flow rate to go off of and see how each different turbo compares to each other.

mazda_speed_6 01-31-2014 10:31 AM

No flow rate for the bnr stg 3? i would think it would flow almost as much as the gt2871r maybe a bit lower as the bnr has a almost stock size inlet and the gt2871r has a 4" inlet, some one correct me if im wrong on the inlet size of the gtx2871r.

The S3 does seem to flow a little less than a GT2871 but they are in the same ballpark.

Any Holset that is 80lb/min or more is a 18 wheeler or tractor turbo, they are huge!

hx30 is on your list twice now

smoogs12 02-04-2014 07:40 AM

Here is a listing of the above turbochargers along with additional turbochargers not listed. I found this a while back on the NASIOC forums, and have added to it slowly over time.
