It was probably because I removed the VTCS when I did my porting.

That greatly affects the air velocity into the head at lower RPMs and results in lower air flow = less exhaust energy = delayed spool.

It's prolly thought to be "large" cuz it's 46mm compared to the TiAL 44mm, but as you stated 2mm isn't incredibly bigger than the TiAL. I'm personally going with a Turbosmart 45mm gate

Doubt the turbo is broken. I think it's wastegate issues. I have several threads i recently created with my spooling issues discussed in them. Check out my created threads and feel free to chime in with troubleshooting suggestions. I've already done a bunch of troubleshooting. and pretty much out of ideas so I am going to go ewg in hopes that fixes my problem. If it doesn't fix it then fuck it.

Right now I'm hitting 20psi at 4k rpm and holding 25 to redline. Vd was 395hp/420lbft and it pulls hard. It just takes forever to get spooled. If its not wastegate then it's something simple and under my nose I'm sure.

Ideally yes. Two smaller wastegates would be better. But there is nothing wrong with running a single larger gate.

Lies you don't need 2 wastegates for twin scroll

I've seen many race teams run a single 60 mm gate on a twin t4 hotside and have well more than enough boost control...... although two wastegates look pretty it seems like more of a hassle I would want to ever deal with

Just for kicks I threw these into a spreadsheet with a graph. The line is arbitrary but the ones that stood out the most are Alpha, Captain KR, doubleflusher, and atvfreek. This isn't really a fair comparison, we would need the entire boost curve to see how they compare but it is interesting nonetheless.

Not sure how useful it really is comparing turbos like that. I could run more than 18psi at 3000, but choose not to. Many of the others on here are in the same boat.

You can update my entry as I fixed my spooling issue. Just an FYI if anyone is having issues spooling and you have a cat, it's probably clogged because mine was jacked up and clogged and all the back pressure prevented my car from making power and spooling.

hta3586 t3 single scroll .82 hotside.

spring pressure is 21psi, but this beast wont stop till 26ish.

here is a 4th gear dyno log 1-2psi above spring pressure. Looks like 20psi by 3822 rpms



Here is another log with a few more clicks to the mbc. Looks like 28psi by 4200 rpms.

@NJSPEED3; Its nice to see the comparison between the two different turbos and how little they actually affected your spool. The only thing that changed between setups was the turbo correct?

I'm thinking removing exhaust restriction will be the key. Anyone got any other ideas to help?
