Default Blow Off Valve

I'm looking to add a BOV to my 07 speed3.
Do I need to buy one of those $300 name brand ones or can I
just buy a $50 universal one from ebay? I'm not really doing any
other tuning. Has any one bought a cheap universal and used it?
How is it working?
Thanks.

In theory you could take a cheap universal one and make it work but here's a few things to think about:

1.) You'll have to re-flange, this will take time and/or money.
2.) If it costs 50$ how much time, money, and R&D do you think they really put into it?
3.) Does it leak? Will it hold boost?
4.) Does it give you the option to recirculate? Or is it full VTA? Our cars don't like full VTA without a tune.

It is true, you get what you pay for. I'd recommend HKS or Turbosmart XS flanged specifically for your car.

Instead of going bargain basement why don't you search our threads, there's always people selling used BOV/BPV in the 100-200$ range in great condition.

Installing an eBay special will be like switching out the shift knob on a Porsche with a fossilized turd.

You're going to want one that will allow recir or at the very least 50/50.

I used cheap ones with my air/water setups that I've been changing around over the past few years. I've had 3 of them and none of them have leaked. They came with pipes from CXRacing, so I didn't have to reflange anything, but there was some minimal fabrication to get things to fit since it was a custom air/water setup. They are a Greddy Type S no-name immitation I believe, or maybe they're RS. Can't remember. If you can't fabricate something this simple, you're stuck with bolt on style.

For sure get a recirc style, no VTA here unless you can tune your ECU.

I run HKS VTA right now.Simply because i have to. I will recirc it when i get my intake remade. I've had just about everyone on the market. They all work the same. I'd suggest a forge v1 or v2 or even the turbosmart bpv from SU

Sorry, I never even tried to source anything for the stock BPV, just didn't care to use it. I used the no-name brand Greddy imposters listed in the post you quoted. All you'd need is some 1/8" flat bar stock and a short piece of 1" tubing to make your own flange though. Also, why steel pipe? Steel holds onto heat = heat soak fail.

Just be sure to get a larger heat exchanger than they (TT) use. Since the core is on top of the engine, all of the engine bay heat will be trying to raise your boost temps along with the actual boost temp itself. Fit as large of one (HE) as you can.

+1. Unless the stock one is leaking (you are monitoring boost, aren't you, OP?), and most of them don't, nor does mine, then you're just getting eye/ear candy and will not get any real performance benefit.

Spend less money on a new intake and you will be able to hear the stock BPV go "pshhh" because that is clearly all you are looking for. This way you will actually get some performance return on your investment.

i recommend the turboxs hybrid which is 210.....it "hybrid" cause at low boost (30%ish and below) its recirc and at wot its VTA and the way its set up it doesn't put up a check engine light like the VTA setup HKS SSQV shit does....idk ur choice just choose wisely...and ur i agree with everyone....U GET WHAT U PAY FOR...and i say fuck that univeral shit.

You don't need to spend 300+ on a bov for one you dont want a bov on these cars it will only cause problems and the hybrid valves like you have found are also very $pricey$ I have the turbo smart bpv wich is full recirc just like the stocker and it sounds great!!! it has the same turbosmart quality as the dual port bov but cost half as much.

amazon has/had some leftover black hks ssqv's for $140, they are legit.

You still gotta buy the flange and recirc stuff.

It's too bad the 1g DSM BOV doesn't work on our cars. It "looked" like the same bolt pattern but it's just a hair off which sucks!!!

Those are one of the best stock BOV's made to this date!
