I got my bnr in september of 2013 was this issue addressed by Brian or should I be worried ? No issues yet I have about 10k on my Bnr s3 v2.

This may be late and have to do with the v1 but I have a BNR S3 V2. Received last month Brand new.

Seal between housing and compressor leaks at any amount of pressure. I can charge the system quickly to 25psi during a leak test but It leaks out of the Turbo at rate of 2-3 PSI per second. Sometimes will hit boost perfectly and sometimes won't get past 21psi. Im running 24psi on E85 and have about 1500miles on the turbo.

I talked with Matt at PG and he got in touch with Bryan. Bryan said "I wouldn't worry about it. That's not enough volume to hurt anything. If he wanted to silicone the surface that would stop the issue."

1. I beg to differ that its not enough volume. Air is dumping out of that seal..2. Why should I have to seal a brand new turbo that wasn't manipulated in any fashion but just installed. It shouldn't come down to that..

I have a video of myself spraying soapy water on the compressor and the leak it OVERWHELMINGLY visible.

I tried to an exceptable TQ but they didn't budge. I'm not trying to strip anything in the housing only because I knew of this being a problem on the old housing.

Maybe an "acceptable" torque would work better?

Or maybe you should call the manufacturer directly.

Update: talked with Bryan on the phone today. He said I can send it back to be re-sealed or do it myself. I don't have a spear FUCKKing turbo just laying around. Took it out and sealed it myself. He said "Since you have showed me and explained to me what is going on we are starting to put a better gasket seal on the compressor" we'll see about that I guess.

Waiting for the sealent to cure and will find out of this solves my problems which I'm about 100% sure will.

Were you running really rich under boost or was the turbo not making boost with the compressor leak?

Bryan makes the compressor housing but the chra and I imagine the backing plate is Garrett. So they are made by different manufacturers and this can cause some tolerance issues.

Completely inconsistent on hitting boost targets. Was leaking so bad the system wouldn't even hold 10psi. It's took 4 strait logs to get to boost targets. Spots of lean in between 4-5k but nothing more then boost being unpredictable yet naming targets in all the right places. I'm assuming the thin o-ring they use must heat up and swell creating a better seal after a couple of pulls. That's just my theory.

I was going through this old thread and I have a feeling I am similar issues to yours. How was your bnr building boost during wot? I am currently fully bolted running reverse taper to 25 psi and building boost down low is shit until about 4100 rpms. I have been reading that I should be hitting full boost around 3300 rpms.

The boost curve was fine. However my AFR's at WOT were all over the place.

Who is tuning you?

A BNR should be able to hit 20+ lbs of boost by 3200 RPM's or so.

Do you have the newest version?

i am tuning him (Ryan @ PD) his is the old bnr. literally have thrown everything at this bnr and it won't spool faster. vvt is up to 30*+, added preload, 80% wgdc and the turbo won't hit 20 psi till 4100. Afr has been fairly flat this entire time. it's just spooling really slow. All the flange bolts have been checked. No problems there. The only things left to check are the chra bolts and the exhaust housing to see if maybe the housing or the waste gate flapper is cracked. I've tuned a bunch of bnr's and this is the first time i've ever encountered one acting like this.

I am taking this turbo off tomorrow and gonna go to town on it. Ryan is taking real good care of me and has literally been holding my hand through this process. Last log's afrs were great as ryan stated, i stand corrected. Before I went zzb I never got the chance to run this turbo completely so I'm not sure if this is the condition I bought it in but I was told it was mint which it still appears to be to me. I'm just hoping it was just loosened bolts as I am getting ready to sell this and install my gt3071.

i've had him add preload twice on this thing proabably 4-5 full turns in total. something is definitely up. I'm thinking either the turbine wheel got messed up on his zzb or the hosing is cracked around the wastegate port.

Does he have a catalytic converter? If it's spun or clogged it will cause slow spooling

nvm found the problem @txmedic512;'s friend is a derp. 2 of the manifold to turbo nuts were super loose

Wierd, my current Beaner is a 1st gen and I am running a stock DP, NATOR Midpipe, Corksport TMIC, Modified Corksport SRI, HTP 3" TIP, with a no name mac solenoid 3 port and I can hit 25/26 lbs of boost.

Read what i wrote he had 2 turbo to manifold bolts SUPER loose. He sent me a video turning them by hand. With those fixed he will hit higher boost pressure and spool faster with no problem now.

It should. My old Beaner wouldnt hit past 24. But then again my old motor was hurt.

Is this still a issue at all? Im going to be ordering a new bnr s3 and definitely dont want to deal with this kind of headache.
