Default BNR S4 turbo & JBR 3.5" intake sound

Quick question for you all.

I have recently had a BNR S4 v2 installed into my 2007 Mazdaspeed6, it was installed on Saturday along with a JBR 3.5" intake, Grimmspeed EBCS, MAP sensor, small battery etc.

Car runs OK on the basemap with wastegate spring pressue boost at the moment. Hopefully Justin will send me rev 2 shortly.

Anyway, the question I have is about the turbo & intake noise from the engine bay. I'm probably being paranoid but I can now hear every single noise that this turbo makes. When I am at the 3k rpm range it seems to make some spooling noises that I didn't hear with the KO4. When I go above 3,700rpm all hell breaks loose and I hear the beautiful turbo whistle.

Would having an aluminum intake amplify these noises? The JBR TIP is ever so slightly rubbing the smaller battery tray and I guess I could be hearing amplified vibrations. I'll try and get a sound recordng posted but in the meantime I just wanted reassurance that this turbo sounds like a semi truck!

Oh yeah almost forgot about the Grimmspeed boost controller. It is mounted on the firewall. Is it normal to hear the tick tick tick at idle?

Thanks

Sounds normal to me.

Yes. Any aftermarket intake (SRI or CAI) will increase the amount of intake noise that gets into the cabin.

It's normal to hear the EBC cycling whenever it is operating. I moved mine off of the firewall because it was too damn loud at partial or full throttle.

The ricer in me loves the sound of a bigger turbo at idle. Congrats on the upgrade. Post up your results when your tune is finished. Are you going pump only or adding aux fuel?

I have a HTP 3.5" to install with my BNR S3. Don't know if it will make the same noises as the S4 but I hope it does. I bought all the parts to put my full size battery in the trunk.

Good to know about the GS EBCS making noise on the firewall. I'll be mounting mine elsewhere when it comes time.

Just tonight, I put a thick rubber washer between my EBCS and the firewall. I can barely hear it now and only if I really listen for it.

Good idea, I'm going to try the same thing. I was actually thinking of wedging a piece of foam in between the EBCS and the firewall.

My Grimmspeed EBCS is on the front side of the stock battery box. My turbo and CAI are small enough to retain the battery. I barely hear it.

Just put some isolating material (rubber, foam, plastic) between it and the firewall and the clicking sound will be gone or greatly reduced.
