Default Boost issues/I’m not sure what hose this is

Can anyone help me out I’ve been having boost issues where instead of pushing 18/19 pounds of boost I can only get to 10 psi max 1-4 gear. I’ve changed spark plugs to one step colder and checked them and my turbo. I do have a tune through stratified tuning. Everything is accounted for in the tune ACCEPT the spark plugs. I was removing stuff and found this hose connected to the TIP and it looked like a price had broke off I’m not sure what it does or what it’s for if anyone could help it would be appreciated.

That hose goes to a nipple on the electronic boost control solenoid (ebcs). You will have three nipples on it. Two will have hoses. The third will be for that hose, if not broken off. The nipples are plastic and fragile.

Yes, that is the EBCS. Look for the third nipple on it, replace the hose there and reinstall the clamp. If the nipple is broken off, you'll need to replace the EBCS. Consider getting an aftermarket one like what Grimmspeed sells, as their nipples are metal and will not break like the POS factory solenoid.

I broke mine while doing my HPFP install. I was an hour and a half away from home and it was late at night. I babied it home and ordered an OEM one form mazda.

In December I swiped a spare off of a speed from a local Pick n Pull.

Good luck. Hope you don’t break it again. Maybe the spare will bail you out next time.

Those OEM nipples are plastic and very fragile. Many of us went with Grimmspeed or other aftermarket versions because they have metal nipples. If you get tired of them breaking, consider a permanent solution.

We all prefer metal nipples...erm...or something like that.

Ya when I broke it I turned to the forums and found loads of people that ran into the same problem and I figured it was a common issue. I ended up plugging both ends with golf tees
(because from what I understood it would run off of the wastegate spring pressure of 10psi?), and drove it home bellow 3k rpm.

Hopefully if I do end up snapping it again it'll be so I can swap it out for an aftermarket one.

The solenoid is probably no longer opening to vent some air to raise boost above 10psi...You will see after replacement....
Usually if you break the path from EBCS back to TIH, it won't change much because the solenoid would keep working venting in the air instead of venting back into the tih....This can possibly brings an AFR cell because of the small leak created but not much more....
On the other hand, if you break the other boost line going to wastegate, you will overboost a lot like having 100% wg duty...And you would need to cap it until repaired to safely drive the car on spring pressure...

And in my memory the oem ebcs just have 2 lines/ports, not 3. The larger third boost line is from turbo boost source to wg directly. If you have 3 lines, it is an aftermarket one...

Ah ok thanks for the info. I broke nipple going to the wastegate so, sounds like it would not have been good.
