Build your custom fmic for $276.54

So I've been debating on building a fmic for quite some time now. I just sold my cp-e tmic and bit the bullet yesterday. Everything was bought off ebay. I will hopefully be getting all the stuff in the mail mid next week and I will be posting up some pix and whatnot on my setup.

Straight Aluminum Pipe x2
45 Degree Aluminum Pipe x2
75 Degree Aluminum Pipe x2
90 Degree Aluminum Pipe x2
180 Degree U Aluminum Pipe x1
Straight Silicon Hose x6
90 Degree Elbow Hose x2
Stainless Steel T-Clamp x16

Odds and ends
2.5 to 2.0 90* reducer: 18.88 shipped
2.75 to 2.5 straight reducer: 14.66 shipped.
bov/bpv flange: 18 shipped.
4 extra 2.5 hose clamps: 12 shipped

That adds up to a grand total of $276.54. Not bad for a decent fmic setup. All in all, the parts look to be of good quality: 4ply hoses, 2mm aluminum tubing/mandrel bend with rolled ends. Nice ss hose clamps, and the intercooler is bar & plate design, hand welded and tested. I will definitely keep you guys posted and get you pix asap. I don't see the need for the $1000fmic kits with dinky intercoolers, when you can have a better setup for 1/3 the price with some time and fabrication.

Yeah it will work. It's not a bolt on kit, so I will have to cut and fab some. But it'll work

I just got done pullin the bumper off and started making a plan. I'm gonna be cutting out 21" of the crash bar, so yes, it's coming out. Intercooler is going to fill most of the lower grill so there will be little to no gaps. All in all, it looks like I can hammer this out in a few hours. I'm gettin the itch but no parts. I may go pick up some pvc and fab up some pvc piping to satisfy me for now. lol

damn I was hoping for a solution without the cutting....it doesn't really get that hot here in VT, but the damn FMIC is so much better and it makes getting to stuff so much easier. I always feel like I'm pulling the damn TMIC off.

Yeah, it started to be annoying to have to pull the tmic off to work on anything. I'm sure if you snuck the intercooler behind the crash bar, it wouldn't need to be cut. But I don't want any obstructions to the intercooler. Even if someone cuts the crash bar, a new one can be fabbed up pretty easy and located just above the old one.

Just a heads up I run the Cx racing kit abs that core is no bueno my bats are still high even in freezing cold weather you might wanna go with a treadstone core which is dwhatt I'm gunna do

Well, I am tryin to see if i can route it w/o removing the washer tank. I have a routing plan up my sleeve that would be insane, but I don't know if it will work. I will keep you posted

You purchased the cx racing bolt on kit for the speed6? This isn't a bolt on kit, its just an intercooler. And quiete a bit bigger than the one they include in their kit. Either way, I'm sure it wasn't the kit that is causing your high bats. If it were, we'd be hearing it from everyone who has purchased the kit. My fingers are still crossed though lol

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

still a little to small IMHO. couldve been 2 inches taller

I'm looking to get something like this for my fmic as well. i got the pg kit which is basically the same thing and even though my bats are decent I still feel like they could be better. Did you have to do any fab work to get it to fit? I had to remove some useless plastic but that was it, hoping it doesn't require any more than that.

Subbed. I would probably choose a smaller (i.e. not as tall) core to maintain the crash bar and have it under it. The last thing I want is to get into a crash and have my insurance company deny my claim because I had removed safety equipment from the car. But interested in how your DIY kit goes together.

I had to cut the crash bar is about it. The inlet/outlets are about the same place. I think just going 3.5 in thick helped alot too. If I go bigger it would be for looks since Im going meth soon.

Yeah, I guess I wouldn't want to cut the crash bar, I'm sure there must be 3.5 inch cores that are the same height, I'll have to do some searching

Just a heads up guys....intercooler is mounted and fits like tits. I will get some pix up tomorrow and then get the piping done too.
