(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score If I got the port/polish and the bigger compressor but without the clip? Seems like most of the complaints with the modded unit have been stuff like not holding boost, etc... With no clip I wonder if that will go away. Or will it just create a different set of problems?

| Not Ranked : 0 score You will need to clip to be able to flow enough for the bigger compressor wheel, one doesn't really work right without the other.

| Not Ranked : 0 score The issue isn't that its not holding boost... its that in WOT open loop operation (i.e. its not using sensor feedback to control the wastegate duty cycle) it runs the same duty cycle as it would with a non-clipped turbine, and due to the smaller surface area of the turbine, runs slightly less boost. This is pretty easily solved with a BC. The only thing that needs to change is the WGDC, this isn't a problem with the turbine clip at all, its doing exactly what it was designed to do. Its just that now something is different and the tune cannot account for it. And although the reworked turbo on stock tune / ap reflash isn't boosting as much in open loop through most of the powerband, it IS holding closer to the boost targets when you start getting up towards redline, and its especially noticeable with the full throttle reflashes. I don't know if anyone who has the reworked on this forum has REALLY tuned for it and posted dynos. You can bet once accesstuner comes out you'll see loads from me, until then, check the thread titled "My big little turbo" for my ap stage 1+ reflash + reworked turbo dyno.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Hello fellas. I have the reworker and I have posted my dynos before and after the CPE flash. I have since dynoed the car two more times at two different locations. My numbers have not gone below 330whp and 360tq on each of those dyno runs. My target psi on the one map is 19 while on the "track" map I have it set at 21 psi. I added a fair amount of fuel down low while slowly puling fuel away starting at around 4000rpm. I mess with the tune daily as I try to find the right combination. I also play with boost parameters as well as trying to use the grid boost map as oppose to the fixed boost setting on the standback. Nonetheless, I am able to hit my target psi in every gear(Never logged first gear so I don't know about first). The reworked turbo most definetely flows better than the stocker. The problem lies with holding your boost target. I lose boost at around5000rpm slowly dropping to around 14-15 psi by 6500rpm. I have played with this reworker in every way and it looks like it just runs out of steam in the upper rpms. Is it a worthwhile modification, money wise, most definately if you can tune for it(SB,APwith street tuner or other). Would I recommend it, well I would say look into a bigger turbo such as the gt28 or gt30 or like lallosh gt35 I trule enjoy my set up but I cannot say that I wish my boost would not drop like it like it does in the upper range. Hope you make the choice you are happy with.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score O.K. got it, need the clip for the bigger wheel. So what if I go port and polish only? Waste of $$ Money better spent on other stuff? Bigger turbo is a no go due to money. I got a wife and two kids so they come first before the car. Man's gotta take one for the team now and again.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I wouldn't waste the money porting the stock turbo. I might be able to point you in the right direction if I knew what mods you had?

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score SS Installer - Thanks. Mods are: Forge BPV Corksport FMIC (comes with CAI and Turbo inlet) Vibrant DPBE Corksport DP CDFP Soon to be added (unless somebody talks me out of it) - PG manifold, MAP clamp and MBC, water/meth inj., and possibly a reflash (CP-E). Turbo upgrade is a bit too spendy, but if port/polishing a K04 is basically shining up a turd, I can pass...

The CP-E flash would also be another great option, but you'd probably end up with fuel/boost cut if you didn't at least add a map clamp at the same time. With your mods, your ready for some tuning. I had all the bolt ons with the stock HPFP and still needed to pull 6% of fuel above 5000 rpms(even with the boost set at 17 psi)-It made a world of difference. 17 psi with no fuel pulled felt like 15 psi with the fuel pulled...

Clipping the turbine will not reduce the amount of boost. It will increase lag/spoolup and increase exhaust flow. Your issue here with small turbo's is the WG spring is not holding the door closed as the turbine pressure increases with exhaust flow. A boost controller is not going to change that. It might help depending on where get your boost source but ultimately it's going to force the WG flapper open. | |
