Cobb BPV Maintenance

I was just reviewing the instructions for the cobb BPV http://www.licmotorsports.com/sites/...BPVinstall.pdf and they mention you should remove the entire BPV at every oil change, remove the piston and potential regrease if it isn't moving smoothly. seems kinda like a PITA to me. I've had my BPV on for probably at least 5 or 6 oil changes and have not done that.

for those of you who have the cobb bpv have you been doing this maintenance and if so have you found it necessary to re-lubricate the piston?

People go 30,000 miles without an oil change and their car still works. Doesn't mean it's ok to do. Follow the maintenance preocedure.

the reason I'm asking is that seems a bit like overkill...i mean to my knowledge nothing similar has to be done to the stock BPV

We're not talking about the stock bpv. I had a forge bpv from the previous owner that called for the same thing. So I put the stock one back on because I didn't feel like lubing it up every oil change. So I'm gunna suggest that you put the stock one back on if you dont want to follow cobbs maintenence procedure.

Do you want that piston to seize one day cause you didn't follow the maintenence schedule? That would be terrible for your turbo.

thanks for your input. I'm well aware of the hypothetical risk. I posted because I am looking to hear from folks who actually have the cobb BPV if they've found it needing frequent lubrication

I own the Cobb BPV so I can speak to this. Yes clean it and do it often. Mine starts to flutter a bit every time I'm getting close to my oil change interval. I vent 50/50 so it does get dirtier more quickly. I can remove, disassemble, clean, lubricate, reassemble and install in about 10 minutes. Do it while you're waiting for your oil to drain. I also suggest you stick to the lubricate Cobb recommends. I've used about 5 different lubricates but the APR stuff works the best. Hope this helps.

Forgive me for asking but didn't Cobb have their own lubricant designed specifically for their BPV? I bought mine two years ago and should have dropped the extra couple of $$ and picked up a bottle. Anyone else know what I'm talking about? I couldn't find it on their website anymore sadly... if not i'll just buy the ARP and say F it because I know that stuff works very well and have seen it used on other BPV.

COBB specifically recommends the ARP lube in their BPV maintenance instructions, so it's doubtful they ever had anything developed of their own.

In newer iterations of their instructions, they've since tacked on Super Lube as another recommendation:
