Default Corksport Air Straightener - Falling out into air filter

Anyone ever have a their air straightener fall out of the MAF housing and start flopping around in the air filter?

Any suggestions for keeping it stuck in place without risking sucking something through the turbo? No glues or tape that might come off over time.

I thought my car had been acting stupid because of the winter cold, but discovering this during an oil change last night could very well be why the car has been running poorly. But now how to keep it fixed?

That's what I did with mine. My car was stumbling and cutting at low load until I figured out that it fell out. Interesting that I didn't get a cel though.........

Fwiw, that is the only problem I have had and I've been running that intake for 15,000 miles now.

My car was running weird and had a misfire/CEL I assume due to the air straightener flopping around the air filter.

I emailed CS, they said to use silicone...

This is exactly why i reinstalled my stock air box and put in a k&n drop-in. I can't have things flying / flopping etc. around in my intake.

i also don't want to have to "repair" my own with super-glue or silicone. (not that it won't work, simply out of principal)

Thanks for the replies.

Not sure what I'll do yet, but I appreciate the input. I guess I'll think about it a bit. I'm thinking silicone, maybe just a thin film around the MAF straightener and stuff it back in the housing.

I guess I'm somewhat glad I'm not the only one this has happened to, it just seems like something stupid to be overlooked in the design.

Oh, and I have no idea how long it's been like this, I just noticed it due to it being oil change time, and I generally poke around to make sure everything else looks alright, which this time it wasn't.

wait, wait, wait... you're saying your air straightener came out of the MAF housing of your CS intake? and the "fix" was for you to glue it in place with silicone?

before i comment, i need to make sure i am understanding correctly.

I took it out and haven't had any issues, although I understand the air straightener messes with fuel trims? I plan on putting it back on with some silicone when it warms up.

And I can't imagine the hp gains or losses would even be worth mentioning...

Hello <mdl3v8>,

We received your inquiry referenced below.

Are you using a dab of silicone when you install it?——Also unless you are getting a check engine light I would not use it.——In the 07-09 speeds you loose a bit of HP using it.——It is only provided because a lot of people were saying they need it.——

Please contact me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Thank you,

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The past 3+ times I have taken the air filter off of my SRI the air straightener has been laying in the filter. When I installed the SRI it may not have been fully seated in the MAF housing, but each time I have put it back on it has been fully seated.

Do you have any suggestions for keeping the air straightener in place?

2007 MS3

Thanks,

<Me>"

lol... i guess put silicone on it? i figured it was permanently attached. i dunno. i'd be reluctant to put any type of matter in there, be it silicone, glue, or whatever. perhaps see if you can find someone to give it a couple zaps with a welder?

Use 4 small dabs of silicone on the edge and pop it back in. That is what we use to secure them. it also allows you to pull it out if needed in the future.

The housing is aluminum, the insert is plastic.

Cost to manufacture 1 piece out of aluminum is probably stupid expensive and not worth it.

Anyhow, the car seems much happier again with it in. I wish I would have known about this sooner.

the sure, cp-e, and even pg intakes all have aluminum inserts. i kinda just figured they all did. except, of course, for the cobb. but the entire maf housing is plastic and the air straightener is integrated.

A little silicone won't hurt. Just make sure that it has bonded to the aluminum and the plastic before you throw it back on the car. You don't want your engine sucking that stuff in.

This also happened with mine, popping po171, po300, po172 , the issue got worse ,it some how broke and blocked the air flow to my maf sensor..I would start the car then it would cut back off..after checking vacuum pressure, sparkplugs, fuel pressure , purge solenoid, cleaned maf sensor..I gave up and took it to the dealer. .and sure enough there haneded me pieces of the air straightener. .craziness if I knew that a air straightener could come loose like that before hand i would have glued it in place ..I'm lucky nothing happened to my turbo

Let me know if you find out where the FMIC kit you purchased came from. It should not have been installed with the kit.
