DP on 09 won't smoke, riiiiight?

Okay so this has been beatin to DEATH, about to jump and get a dp and am worried about smoking (will be getting a hpfp first). I've been all over the "official smoking turbo thread" and would have posted there but it's closed. I got an 09 and my vin DOESN'T fall under the recall. Is there a way to check that my PCV system has been upgraded already to confirm that i'm NOT going to smoke with a dp or is it still likely that i'll smoke due to having an aftermarket cat and obviously one less with the new dp...

Only if it's silver and has one headlight.

On a serious note, there is one quick way to tell...put a dp on. You can get an oil restriction bolt from Matt Damond or new turbo worse come to worse.

I put mine on with 42k on and mine hasen't smoke once. mine isn't catless though.

EBay catless here no smoke so far. 2011 with 28k on the clock

All depends if your turbo is good it won't smoke. If it is on its way out the cats are what keeps it from smoking so as soon as your straight pipe it without any resonators game over smoke city!!

I say go ahead and get the dp. You are probably going to get one eventually anyways. If you smoke then follow the steps to help smokey turbo. If that doesn't work then get a new turbo. I always see a K04 for sale for a reasonable price.

I'm still getting the emails with all your help!!! And thank you guys for all the advice, i haven't decided to pull the trigger yet cause i'm buying a house...lol priorities i guess right? I'll do a HPFP first then i'll get the DP shortly after. Thanks guys for all the advice!

The k04 turbo is just a shitty turbo. You may or may not get lucky. Or it may start smoking 5k miles down the road.

If you searched (like you implied you did) then you would understand there is no guarantee that your turbo will or wont smoke. You are looking for a guarantee thats non-existent. Your turbo could be smoking now but given all the cats in place, you may not even notice...
