The final smoke at idle fix from Mazda TSB 01-002/11 dated 2/23/11

Looks like they released the crankcase vent setup revision a couple days ago. Anyone had this yet? I have a 2nd PCV with my OCC and never had this issue, but if dealers are giving it out no reason not to get it..

Do you have the entire TSB? What I am seeing here is the relocation of the crankcase ventilation closer to the turbo inlet.

it appears they are all new parts, but the TIP (D) is newly designed to have a spot for the new vent hose (B). People with an aftermarket tip might be SOL.. Curious why the cylinder head is new, maybe some of the magic is under there, or possibly could just be to accommodate the required angle of the new hose? Vacuum tubes appear to be thicker also..

I was just at the Mazda dealer and the tech specifically stated that they are ONLY doing this fix for CX-7's, and it doesn't work, for what it's worth.

The preference is to actually have no fluids coming through though. I think the problem is the more efficient you make the venting system the more likely you are to pick up some fluid. If you don't vent well enough, you create too much pressure and the oil return lines get choked up, backing up the oil in the turbo and burning it. We see both of these things.. I've no idea how to fix both safely though, hopefully Mazda did.

Its not replacing the cylinder head. Its only replacing the valve cover, with a better baffle. That's a gen2 valve cover they are using. People have used that method here already. The inlet reroute crap seems like more fail though.

cylinder head cover = valve cover

i dont recall those vacuum hoses

the vacuum pressure right before the compressor inlet in alot greater then all the way out by the filter like it is now so it prob helps to pull more air out. i dunno what the baffle is doing different but im sure they did some math on the breather hole sizes and whatnot

Ya, just missed the 'cover' word when typing it out. So there is a difference under there then. Are people seeing any benefit from the gen2 cover? Is it a direct swap on a gen1?

I wonder if this will ever become a recall. They know turbo smoke is an eventuality. Doubt it but it would be nice. I wonder what they are charging for these parts. With my experience when parts start get replaced under warranty in greater frequency the costs mysteriously drop. Maybe that is the case with these. Do these TSBs have the updated part numbers?

their ordering the parts for my car when they come in ill take pics of them. but as far as the TIP its suppose to tie in were you get vacume for the boost controller and tee in from their. The valve cover were the breather hose is is suppose to be taller and a baffle built in.

So I retract my previous post as I got a call from the dealer the other day saying that they were wrong and that they are actually doing this fix as well as the turbo. I got my car back today so I'll try and keep you guys filled in on how it works.

if you are running the stock dp and or testpipe. they are hiding it.

Enjoy it. This is pertaining to you only if you're smoking. You're tuned, see if you can up the idle a bit to balance out the pressure.

well. one dealership insist on changing the turbo. so ill go get that done then go to the other dealer to get the pcv fix

Been smoking since September before the tune, and somewhat after too, unfortunately. Going for my re-tune to iron out the hiccups Wednesday, will talk to him about the idle and see if I can't get a fix there. Otherwise idk, may just accumulate the fix parts over time and then do it myself down the road when aftermarket "fix friendly" TIPs are released.

After driving for a bit now that I have my car back, the one observation I've made is that the turbo spool sound seems to be muffled compared to what it was beforehand. Maybe this is just in my head. Anyone who has some technical knowledge that could explain this? It's not like I care or anything, as I've never really been a big fan of it in the first place.

I am going to the dealership tomorrow, for the same fix. "Turbo Ventilation". Hopefully it works.
