Confirmed this today at my dealer. Went in for an oil change and to see if there were any updated flashes. It doesn't detail what the flash was for, but they did mention the turbo smoking fix. Glad to see SOME progress!

Going in Friday for this fix. My car smokes every time I stop and has done so for the last 30k (i keep it from smoking through upping the RPMs). I will report back and let you know if it fixes my chimney. I never did get tired of the looks from other motorists who though I had just shit my engine as I sat at a stop light.

On a side note I told the dealer I was fully bolted and said if they would look past my catless downpipe I would stock out the rest of the car as much as i could. They agreed surprisingly.

I am confused if I should do this or not. I have an 07 with 25k miles on it. Turbo was replaced at 22k or around that don't remember. Currently no smoking issues.

I just put on a CS SRI and TIP. It looks like this TSB replaces things I already took off. Am I looking at the picture wrong?

I have the following things ordered CPE HPFP, CPE DP, JBR SSP, JBR RSB. I would like to do this if I should before putting those parts on and then having to take them off.

Sorry for my ignorance when it comes to this.

“This bulletin is not applicable to vehicles with a prior turbocharger replacement using a “C” level or later part number (i.e. L3Y*-13-70ZC”
So if you got a replacement turbo recently this might not be applicable to you I am one of those unlucky ones that has the "C" level part

Well called Mazda, they said parts are 400 bucks, though I may talk to my brother and see if he can get them any cheaper through his dealer. Service guy figures the mods will void the warrenty and since I bought the car like this I can't stock it out

found a little more detail with part numbers...

TSB: 01-002/11
2007-2009 CX-7 - WHITE OR BLUE SMOKE FROM TAIL PIPE AFTER LONG IDLE PERIOD

BULLETIN NOTE
This bulletin supersedes the previous bulletin 01-004/10 issued on 01/07/10, 02/17/10 and 08/18/10. The DESCRIPTION, INSPECTION PROCEDURE, PART(S) INFORMATION and WARRANTY INFORMATION have been revised.
Changes are noted below in Red beside the changes bar.
For 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed6 or 2007-2009 Mazdaspeed3 vehicles with this concern, refer to TSB 01-001/11 ("WHITE OR BLUE SMOKE FROM TAIL PIPE AFTER LONG IDLE PERIOD").
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2007-2009 CX-7 vehicles with VINs lower than JM3ER****9*224013 (produced before July 1, 2008)
DESCRIPTION
Some customers may experience white/blue smoke from the exhaust pipes after long idle periods or while driving at slow speeds in heavy traffic. When engine oil viscosity is low due to improper oil change intervals and/or usage of low viscosity oil, and the internal pressure of the crank case is greater than the exhaust pressure while idling, the lubrication oil for the turbine shaft gets into the exhaust side of the turbine and creates smoke by heat of turbine/catalyst converter.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired according to the following repair procedure.
NOTE:
The oil change program as described in the prior published service bulletin under the same subject, is no longer in effect.
Vehicles having their turbochargers replaced during the procedures as described in this service bulletin, will NOT require any further repairs related to this service bulletin or any future revisions.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
PDF PRINT - INSPECTION PROCEDURE

10. Remove the insulator bolt, then move the insulator (A) to create enough space to access the engine hanger bolt.
11. Remove the engine hanger bolt and engine hanger (B).
VENTILATION SET INSTALLATION:
1. Install new engine hanger.
Tightening Torque: 44-50 Nm
2. Install the insulator bolt.

I've never bothered to notice if I smoke as I usually drive away after about a minute once started or less. I go completely stock for the winter though... bleh. I bought my MS6 used a almost a year ago so I'll check my turbo PN when I get home.

For those who have been smoking and are stock (MS3/MS6/CX-7), was the smoking at idle pretty obvious? I've been using GC 0w30 and I THINK I've been fine.

[B][COLOR="Red"]For 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed6 or 2007-2009 Mazdaspeed3 vehicles with this concern, refer to TSB 01-001/11 ("WHITE OR BLUE SMOKE FROM TAIL PIPE AFTER LONG IDLE PERIOD").

My brother is a Honda tech with a friend at a Mazda dealer, he was saying that about 90% of the repairs he has done this for hav e been for cx7s but he was impresses that the fixes he has done ms3 and ms6 have been working really well. From what I have read the tsbs are the same though our parts are more expensive about 480 retail where the cx7 kit is about 380 retail

It was very obvious for my ms3. People were walking out of the Mazda dealership to see what was smoking so bad.

It was very obvious for me too, I actually had people get out of their cars at red lights and knock on my window telling me my car was on fire...LOL....I also smoked out the dealership

I have a different cylinder head breather tube as the dude who sold me the stock intake (for winter, no tune) forgot the original hose. Been using a larger diameter rubber heater hose instead = no bends and no reduction fit nipples. Works good and was like $3.

I do also have a L3K9-13-700J (actual PN L3Y1-13-70ZC) which is the newer revision I believe (I wondered when I bought the car it was the shiniest of the entire engine bay lol).

ok ao i just got my car back from the dealership. I have a CAI and TIP. They installed the new valave cover with the riser and pcv. the tsb comes also with a new tip with a extra nipple were the pcv connects to, but since i have a tip they installed the line to the original position on my CAI. the valve cover is taller on the back side almost like a runner and is closer to the intercooler. I dont know if a aftermarket intercooler will clear it as i dont know if the width goes up or down for fitment issues with the hood. FYI if you cannot get this service done by the dealership it cost 475 to get the parts kit.

Nice. Your dealer must be mod friendly. I am going to stock out and get everything installed, hopefully, then throw my SRI & TIP back on. I was debating whether to route a new hose to my SRI and it looks to be promising as your dealer did that.

Have any smoke?

so the update is a new valve cover, tip and hose to connect them.

I dont see a problem with running that hose back to the intake like they did for you. Slight difference in suctioni believe.

how exactly is the new valve cover designed. Does it have a different size orfice or valve or bascially just extended with a 90 to create turbulence of some sort. Anyone gets the part kit look into this closely

Hey all, first post here. Had my 07 MS3 since I bought it new in summer 07. Less than a week ago, I was on the highway, getting on it a bit (maybe more than a it), and after letting up a bit, I heard this EXTREMELY loud bang (it hurt my ears in the car with the windows shut). A few minutes later, waiting in the evening rush hour drive through line, my 3 started to smoke like a chimney. As soon as I started driving off, it cleared up. I took it to the dealer today, and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Since that single occurrence the other day, I am unable to reproduce the smoking....... But it sounds an awful lot like what you are talking about here.

Has anyone else experienced this loud bang prior to the smoking issue ?

Edit- Completely stock.

No yours sounds like something completely different. This thread is about the known issues with smoking due to a seal leak from back pressure from the PCV system pushing oil out that then gets turned to smoke through the exhaust. This all happens at idle. Your issue sounds much different due to the sound and your description.

If you want to check if its related go drive the car real hard for about 15mins or so then come home park and let it idle for about 15 mins and see if it smokes. If it does its related.

The pvc has a valve built it thats is directional. The valve cover is taller on the back runner/cam. I did not get to see the inside of the cover, i did not want to push the mevhanic since he was hooking me up. Im still smoking but i think its just the oil that needs to circulate out thats caught in the system.

The smoke issue does sound similar, just the bang sounds different. I was driving it kind of hard prior to sitting at idle for 10+ mins, when it started smoking. I have been unable to reproduce the smoking I saw, but had not tried driving it hard prior to idling.

I am just baffled by the bang that occurred. I cannot for the life of me figure that part out, and was seeing if anyone else had experienced anything like I had in regards to the loud bang.

Perhaps you bent a rod and now your piston/rings aren't seating properly resulting in smoking.

Just a thought. I know when I bent a rod, it was a very loud bang, although mine didn't start smoking... until that rod went through the block and oil spewed all over my downpipe.

I just called my service department. The service guy said there are 3 TSB's out for the issue. 2 involving the PCV and 1 for replacing the turbo. He said they have to go through a diagnosis process through Mazda USA and whatever they say, goes. So, looks like a new turbo may still be in the books for some people.

Just a heads up for the rest of us who are having the issue.

how exactly is the new valve cover designed. Does it have a different size orfice or valve or bascially just extended with a 90 to create turbulence of some sort. Anyone gets the part kit look into this closely
From what i have seen the underside of the new valve cover looks the same (old ones had that metal/baffle covering alongside the valve cover vent also. The only thing i see different is the exit of the valve to tip. Looks like it is a 3 or 4 bolt attachment. Maybe someone could undo those bolts & see what they did? Is this the 3way solenoid they mention in the TSB? Confused about that. Nobody has mentioned this solenoid even though i think its the most important thing in the TSB, a solenoid controls flow...

Hopefully this will fix smokers.

Not sure if this applies to me or not....my car smokes from a cold start and I let it warm up it will smoke but once I start driving the smoke goes away and it doesn't come back at idle when I am at stop lights.

Probably not. You'll know if you're smoking.

I dunno it could be the weather...it's supposed to warm up later this week if my car still smokes when it's 60 degrees outside I'll be worried.

It's normal for cars to smoke when starting up, but that isn't smoke, it's mostly water. Warm the car up and let sit for 10 minutes. The smoke smells like burnt oil and does not evaporate as easily as your said smoke.

I posted a video on one of these threads, if you link it to my YouTube page, you can see some better videos of it.

Thanks...I'll look for that video...I know it's not water because it has a bluish tint to it at times.

Yes, i believe your right. Was looking at some photos and see the 3 way solenoid.

So then the only difference is the location of the vent tube closer to the turbo inlet and the redesign of the valve cover vent exit. This leads me to believe that mazda must have done something to that vent but what? I dont think mazda would spend $$ to just refab a new design valve cover for just a vent tube to the tip.

Im sure eventually someone will take those screw off if possible n see whats there if anything.

If you read post 72, I state there are 3 TSB's for this problem. I'm assuming the PVC ones involve the valve cover redesign. And the service advisor also stated the turbo replacement is still in effect.
