| Not Ranked : 0 score After reviewing 01-002/11 TSB, it only applies to Mazdaspeed 3 (2007-2009 w/VIN JM1BK****9*187397 and lower) and CX-7's (2007-2009 w/VIN JM3ER****9*224013 and below) and strictly (in red) references 01-001/11 for 2006-2007 MS6 owners. The 01-001/11 TSB, replaces the turbo itself instead of the Ventilation Set suggested in 01-002/11 TSB. If you managed to get a new Ventilation Set AND a new turbo out of this for Mazdaspeed 3/CX-7, you are extremely lucky. 01-002/11 TSB specifically states that a "turbo" replacement is no longer valid or eligible to fix the "white smoke" issue for Mazdaspeed 3 and CX-7 models. It also points out that once the new Ventilation Set is installed, the issue is no longer service-able and considered a "closed topic". Which means, if it didn't fix your issue, your shit out of luck unless you have a compassionate Mazda dealership. For Mazdaspeed 6 owners 2006-2007, the 001/001/11 "white smoke" turbo replacement is covered under the standard 35K warranty and 60K powertrain limited warranty. If you are within your powertrain limited warranty, go in and get it fixed before it's to late. Also, having a downpipe/exhaust installed will in no way void your powertrain limited warranty, nor relate to the issue at hand which in turn will prevent you from getting a new turbo. From the words of a close friend who is a the Service Manager in the largest Mazda dealership in New England, "this issue if from the turbo up, not turbo down". Having a downpipe actually helps troubleshoot this issue! It allows us and the service technician a better way to diagnose whether or not our turbo seals have the issue. Having the stock downpipe "disguises" the smoke much much more. I'm hopefully getting mine (turbo) replaced this weekend on my 07 MS6 ![]() 001-002/11 Replaces the following for the MazdaSpeed 3:
The Ventilation Set includes the following:

You're doing everyone a favor. On the far end of the spectrum, it's like calling the intake, the exhaust, and vice versa. However, does this breather hose indirectly effect the PCV in regards to pressure? I understand the PCV is dealing with the crankcase and we are talking valve cover here, but is there a relationship somewhere? Tapatalk

| Not Ranked : 0 score i think it just changes how much vacuum is seen in the crankcase, not sure it has any affect on the pcv itself though. like i said before it's probably done to create more vacuum to pull the oil from the turbo drain line and prevent it from backup past the seals. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Here is the Mazda explanation of why this fix resolves the white smoke for Mazdaspeed 3 & CX-7. DESCRIPTION Some customers may experience white/blue smoke from the exhaust pipes after long idle periods or while driving at slow speeds in heavy traffic. This condition may be the result of insufficient crank case ventilation, resulting in oil leakage past the exhaust turbine shaft seal. Other possible causes (determined by reviewing the vehicle’s maintenance records) that should be corrected at the owner’s expense prior to performing this bulletin are:

| Not Ranked : 0 score this is why upping the idle and switching to 5w40 resolve the issue. switching to 5w40 gives you thicker oil which doesn't leak past the seals. and upping the idle increases the vacuum on the crank case. |

After this next service, I'll switch to 5W40. And I'll also have Matt's OCC, which hopefully alleviates some. Maybe I'll get a new turbo and valve cover! Seems the biggest thing with the new TSB is the valve cover, with its baffles inside. I can't see how the relocation of the breather hose has that much effect on pressure, especially when it's next to the turbine, and is downhill from the valve cover.

Post #95 which is a direct copy and paste from the TSB. It is basically saying if the service technician thinks the issue is turbo side, you WILL get a new turbo, but NOT a Ventilation Set. I highly doubt the Mazda technician is going to hook you up with both when it clearly states it's EITHER OR in the TSB workflow for diagnosing a fix.

| Not Ranked : 0 score My shit was smoking with a ebay tp(stock dp). Wanted to take to dealer since I'm still in warranty but was worried about testpipe so I put back to stock and it hasn't smoked since(over 1,000 miles) Dealer wasn't able to get it to smoke either..wtf..It's amazing what that cat covers. Debating taking a chance and puting tp back on and taking to dealer because i'm sure it will start smoking again...idk...

Also I had a downpipe and intake and the dealer wanted me to take off the dp before Bringing it in but I explained to them how the oil killed my cat and they allowed it and Mazda USA approved the work. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score That's right. My car didn't smoke until late last year and I never changed the oil viscosity or did anything else with the first TSB info since I never had a problem. By the time mine started smoking, the second TSB was out and I found it here, went to the dealer and got the new turbo. I guess if I get a catch can I should be good. Can't help wanting all the fixes they offer though. Then again, I changed my oil last weekend and the cover under my engine had 4 or 5 bolts missing, dealer forgot to put them back I guess so I'm scared at what else they might have forgotten... |

| Not Ranked : 0 score ok, I'm new to this board and have been doing a ton of catching up as the 07 MS3 I just bought is smoking at idle. it has almost 70K miles on it. do TSBs still apply to me? honestly thinking it is worth a shot anyway. But if not would a second OCC on the valve cover vent to intake tube do basically the same thing as this up fit? Thanks for the info guys! |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Did you buy the extended warranty? Maybe you'll have a nice dealer and they'll do it under warranty. If not, it's a $500 fix. A second CC couldn't hurt, however, I think the difference is within the valve cover itself. Tapawhat? |

| Not Ranked : 0 score No warranty. thinking the valve cover difference is just a different/higher/larger baffle. $160 OCC should have plenty of baffling to perform as well as a $500 valve cover.... |

| Not Ranked : 0 score It funny the last time I was at the dealer they noted they are recommending a 0w-20 full synth now for the MS3,.....right up until it starts smoking. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Anybody who is eligible for this warranty TSB but because of mods is not installing it yet still willing to get the kit and send it to a fellow Canadian Speed3 owner ... gimme a shout. As usual, Mazda Canada fails again at keeping up to date on TSB's. To hell if they are even going to release it up north. |
