(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I've been running the gen 1 Forge BPV (blue spring 2 shims) and the Guardian Angel for a while without any problems. The GA is setup in VTA mode, but I'm not running the Forge BPV in VTA. Lex says running the GA in VTA while in the BPV is recirc'd is ok and will help with the BPV's response. I service the Forge BPV every 1-2 months and I've changed the piston and gaskets within the last 6 months. During a 4th gear data log, I hit boost cut at ~22psi. I would've expected the GA to kick in at around 20-21psi. To verify that the GA is working, I lowered the GA to 10psi and did another run. The GA's LED would come on after 10psi but I could still build boost up to 20 PSI easily. I thought the GA was malfunctioning, but I swapped the Forge for the stock BPV and the GA works fine with the stock BPV. The GA kicks in at 10psi. So it looks like there is a problem with my Forge BPV. I serviced it again but the GA still won't work with it. Any ideas? I haven't tried going to a softer spring, but I've been running the blue spring/2 shims for ~2 years with any issues. Thanks!

| Not Ranked : 0 score Do you have a log of the GA being triggered with the Forge valve installed? I would like to see it. The OEM and Forge valves work the same.

With the stock bpv, the stock GA kicks in at ~10PSI. ![]() With the Forge bpv, the GA LED comes on at ~10PSI, but the car easily builds boost to 18 PSI. ![]() Any ideas what's wrong with my Forge?

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I didn't take any logs today when I was verifying the GA was working. I have a log from yesterday where I hit boost cut with Forge and the GA didn't kick in. I backed off the gas when I hit boost cut. I can re-install the Forge and take another log tomorrow with the GA set to the lowest setting.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Could the forge be binding and not opening enough? The forge valves have to be opened up and lubricated periodically.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I serviced the Forge bpv again last night before I took those logs. When I service the Forge, I use Mobil 1 synthetic grease, lube the piston sides and all the O-rings. The piston travels freely when I push on the piston and it passes the Forge "pen" test, however with blue spring and 2 shims, there is barely a gap when you hold down the bpv nipple. If I blow on it, the air flows through, so I know the valve is still open. I have tried the new style piston and the old style piston, but it doesn't seem to matter. I guess it's back to stock for now until I can figure this out. I read your posts about the Synpase DV, seems like a better alternative to the Forge.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I tested the Forge with the blue spring, no shims, and the GA set at the lowest setting, ~10psi and the GA LED comes on, but boost still hits ~18psi. I tested it again with the yellow spring with the GA set at the lowest setting, ~10psi. The GA works with the yellow spring, though not as fast as with the stock BPV. With the yellow spring, I saw boost as high as 15psi before the GA dialed it back down to ~10pis. So it my problem with the Forge bpv or with my GA?

I had to do that same exact thing, the stiffer springs wouldn't allow the GA to work correctly. I started with the blue which I ran before I installed the GA and it wasn't stopping boost what so ever even set at 10psi. It was just surging badly. Eventually changed the spring to the yellow and it was slightly better but still hit 14psi and surging when set to 10 and now im running the green spring and it is working correctly. Kinda annoying since the valve now opens too easily IMO. Not sure what else I can do, the BPV was just serviced with fresh grease and new o ring. Any insight would be appreciated. | |
