Default Gonna give this a shot...

So I decided someone needs to try something new. Everyones using the same couple of BPVs, intercoolers and exhaust and everything, and I do plan to go this way eventually.

But I figure we all know where these upgrades go and what their gains are, so I'm gonna try something that to my knowledge isn't used by other people.

A local shop was running a pretty slick deal on Aquamist water injection systems so I picked one up. And I pre-ordered my accessport at aforementioned shop.

So I know that the water injection won't help until I can actually get the car tuned, but I've always thought these systems were neat and I've seen them prove quite useful on my previous car.

So let me know what y'all think. I'll keep you guys updated on how it goes. I don't expect to see any gains until I can get a tune and then push like 50 psi into the engine.

Ive got a meth system i havent installed. Waiting for a ECU solution so i can add timing and take advantage of it. You should do How To and show people how easy these are to install.

Just lean the car out with a piggy back on it. This will keep the timing where it was at before and the leaner mixture will allow for much more power when running the meth set up. We have a 4 port unit getting installed here very soon so I will have results of that when we get it all done.

Problem is both MS3 piggy's arent allowing the car to lean or richen itself up, no matter what you do to it. ECU keeps overiding. What are you using as a Piggy?

Any suggestions on where I can get an extra reservoir tank? The system I ordered does not come with one.

Hope he is using a fail safe. A low level indicator isn't sufficient. If your pump fails or nozzle clogs your screwed.

Thats why if you mix your own Meth, its very important to use clean bottles and techniques along with mixing with distilled water.

Failsafe's are important but ill be the first to admit, i dont use them and havent had any issues. But, im extremely careful when mixing and storing my mix.

How efficient is our stock turbo? Even with WI and if the engine could handle 24 psi, is the turbo even efficient at that point?

the stock turbo is just starting to step out of its efficency @ 23-24 psi. the turbo flow map was posted on the other forum by driver so run over and take a look. with that kind of boost, full exhaust and intercooler and intake upgrade this car should be in the 320's easy.

i did the meth kit but removed it. I didn't find it worth it, but I also didn't have the ability to tune for its advantages.

Thats why I went with the aquamist kit, its got the failsafes all built in to it.

comes with the DDS3 and FIA2.

The dds3 allows you to cut boost if the flow drops too low, the water level drops, or the nozzle clogs.

The FIA2 allows you to map the amount of water/alcohol injected based on the injector duty cycle. I'm still trying to figure out just how well this is going to work with the direct injection system. I'm thinking it may be a bit of a headache to get it to work right. We'll see and I'll keep y'all updated.

How does it adjust the boost lower if flow drops?

Those are all good failsafe systems but the delay times from shut off to the system realizing there is a problem may be to much of a delay. Don't get me wrong failsafes are there for a good reason, its just the DI motors are all ready running damn near boom so pushing it any further can only end up bad if you lean out to much. I would also like to know how you are going to work around the AFR's with the ECU reading them and adjusting accordingly.

You can adjust the threshold of the failsafe, so if I'm running an incredibly aggressive tune I can set the failsafe to activate if the flow is slightly less than max.

I am only planning on using the WI system @ track.

The goal is to tune it with the AP. I know its not out yet, and I know the tuning software won't be out for a while. I flat out REFUSE to use a piggyback on this car. I really wish Hydra would release a standalone system for us.

It has what is essentially an MBC packaged with it, the DDS3. I am still researching all the details of hooking it up, but I probably won't be able to use all the features since I want to use the AP to control things.

So I did some more research into the install of the failsafes with the aquamist kit.

This is probably information most of you already know from installing manual boost controllers. But here is how it applies specifically to a water injection system. Please correct me if I am wrong here at all. I probably am oversimplifying this system, so please please please chime in so I don't break my engine when I put this system on.

From the ECU, pin 34 sends a varying signal (0-12v) to the wastegate solenoid. Based on this signal the solenoid will bleed a certain percentage of the pressure back into the intake tract. It does this b/c the wastegate is actually actuated at ~10psi. So anytime more than 10psi of boost is achieved it is b/c the excess is bled away from the wastegate actuator and back into the intake tract.

A signal from this wire at 12v will make it so all the boost is bled back into the intake tract, making it so the wastegate never opens so you just keep building boost until your turbo turns into a flamethrower.

A signal from this wire at 0v will make it so none of the boost is bled back into the intake tract, so now the wastegate will open right at 10psi.

With a manual boost controller, I beleive this 0-12v signal is intercepted and altered based on user defined settings, essentially like a piggyback that only controls the wastegate actuation.

Now, the DDS3 V8 water injection failsafe system (works with any water injection system ) has sensors that can connect to a tank level indicator, a flow indicator, and the ECU (rpm, injector duty cycle, MAP, etc.) Based on the inputs and user settings it can determine when failsafe criteria are met (i.e. the water injection system is not behaving as expected and we need to change something or else explode the engine.) There is a pin that under normal operating conditions is a ground, but if failsafe criteria are met, or the system is turned off, this pin is no longer a ground signal.

So, in order to use this failsafe feature, one would have to wire the ground wire from the wastegate solenoid into the water injection system control. When failsafe is needed, the ground will cut out and no power will flow to the solenoid, so it will open right at 10psi. If you are boosting higher than 10psi and the wastegate opens your boost will drop to 10psi.

Unfortunately, my suspicion is that when the system is turned off, this pin is no longer a ground and thus, the wastegate will not stay closed past 10psi. I will have to wire in an "override" switch.

NICE can't go wrong by informing your self with knowledge. The ems I went with is setup to integrate and control the Aquamist system directly so the map can be tuned with the aquamist.

We have it on our Speed6 but haven't tuned for it or really run it more than on the street a few times. It added roughly a full point of fuel to the AFR's though. It is also on Ken's fully built Protege5 and another really good customers fully built FC.

Labonte is just down the road from us. one of them actually has bought many Protege parts from us IIRC.

Are you saying your AFR went up a full point?
