Default GT3071r project... heres the goods

I keep posting garbage here and there, answering PMs.... so I figured Id start a thread where I can keep everything going.

First off... pics, dynos, and impressions will be posted today or tomorrow. I'll update as we go along.

You guys got to remember that my tuner shop does all my work and I dont own a camera..lol In addition Im about as internet savvy as a wild turkey.... it takes me an hour to take a pic of my brand new photobucket account....so Im at everybody elses mercy when it comes to this alot of the time.

Im also flying to Florida on Saturday with my family until Thurs of next week. So I'll be off the boards during that time.

Right now....heres where everything stands. My turbo, manifold, inlet, etc have been installed. Were probably going to convert to the Cobb sri as well. Ive got mscai as another option. The standback got overnighted Tuesday for the upgrade... CPE was awesome and turned it around for me in one day... it was overnighted back and is scheduled for delivery today...v2. When I get it it goes on the car and hopefully everything else will be tweaked in and the car will be fired up... today.

As far as running it and dynoing it... that may be today, probably tomorrow. If it gets delayed until I get back next week I'll be very disappointed.

Im thinking 14.7 psi to start... thats the wastegate setting.

Assuming no holdups this afternoon I'll have an update tonight..... pics too, if Derek comes down. I know he is planning on it.

Thanks for everyones patience. Im as ready as anyone but I dont want a blown engine and this timetable hasnt been up to me so keep hanging in. I cant wait to share everything so keep looking here for my updates.

Have you gotten a chance to look it over with everything installed? I bet the turbo looks damn good sitting between that manifold and downpipe.

Went by the shop this morning... they havent touched it since my last trip two days ago. Standback is scheduled for delivery this morning... Derek and I are gonna go over there today at 3:30 for pics posted tonight.

I told him Im headed out of town so he may or may not rush to get it done. He actually sounded like hed prefer to keep it while Im gone and do some datalogs, dynos... make sure it looks OK. Im not sure about how I feel about that, but guys from all over the country tow their rides to this place, and then wait to come pick them up when finished.

I may tell my family that DisneyWorld is just going to be too much trouble this year

i dont believe that ATP uses an actuator that can be preloaded by the arm so getting another is ALOT of extra security knowing that you'll only be at 10-12.5psi. next, i would not use the factory solenoid, i kno the stanback will be coming in handy as a BC but for the same reason alot of the scooby guys change out their solenoids....its weak. my car spikes 19-20psi constantly on stock turbo, this can be attributed to my weather conditions here in floirda also but as another precaution hook it into manifold pressure. Sounds like your shop knows their shit but its something to bring up.

actually, the ATP actuators have a threaded shaft to increase the preload.
you will not be able to reduce the preload under 1 BAR unfortunetly

Pics coming TODAY! I'm taking some around 330 and then I have to go to the gym and a meeting at work, so don't expect them up until 830 or so.

Is there anything special that I should take pics of???

Trust me this SUCKS. There aint gonna be videos because I doubt hes gonna have the inlet fabbed up with an intake by tonight.

And to make it worse....

My dad who I have virtually no relationship with, called and is coming over to dinner tonight with his new girlfriend. He lives in Ohio and hes down for a couple days. Oh yeah.... by the way. My mom died of cancer in July of last year. This woman was the nurse who stayed in the house caring for her, with my dad, in her last days. How fucked up IS THAT SHIT!!!!!!

That is definitely analogous to high boost and lean AFRs! I recommend alcohol injection!

Derek if you can get come over the top engine shots and see if you can from the right side fender catch a good view of the turbo/dp and manifold assemply all in one shot. it doesnt have to be big, just so everything fits in one frame. Good luck with everything Randy, im contemplating doing this or buying my skyline in the summer...i just done kno

OH YEA! if i were you i'd call ATP and see if they have an actuator with a thinner spring...probably 10-12.5 psi or so...or if it can be custom. honestly, 15psi is too much to start off with.

my shop is good... I already asked about the spring and wastegate and he said he might do something about that. I dont think he was all that pleased about it either.

FYI
ATP turbos are shipped with a 1 BAR spring unless asked otherwise.
1 BAR = 14.5PSI

i had no problems dialing in different boost levels with a manual boost controller. It actually showed up at 13psi directly from the tapped silicone boost tube directly to the wastegate.

DO NOT mess with the threaded shaft. I think thats a terrible idea.

I don't know what to say about your paps pale, weird? Thats pretty messed up, I'd be furious inside - I don't know what to even talk about at dinner? Best of luck to you. Hopefully everyone walks away somewhat peacefully.

I look forward to the pictures. I'm planning my outline for new goodies as we speak. Depending on what Randy puts down on the dyno at what PSI, I'll decided to build the motor or to not. I'll be plenty happy with a beast of a car near 375whp. I need to more on to savings and my next project.

Taken from cobbs "How the MS3 Boost Control Works"

You can mechanically tune the boost control system by pre-loading the wastegate actuator arm; adjustment of the wastegate
actuator rod (if the rod length is not fixed and adjustments can be made) will allow proper calibration and some additional
mechanical tuning. All Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) turbochargers have an adjustable wastegate actuator rod, all IHI
turbochargers do not. If the rod coming out of the wastegate actuator is shortened it will pre-load the spring inside the
wastegate actuator increasing the pressure level at which the actuator will allow the wastegate valve to open and the total
boost pressure that turbo can generate will increase (as long as the turbo is still within its efficiency range and has no
restrictions, intake or exhaust wise). This pre-load will also limit how far the wastegate valve can open. Pre-loading
(shortening) the wastegate actuator rod too much CAN POTENTIALLY CREATE A MECHANICAL BOOST CREEP
ISSUE THAT CANNOT BE TUNED OUT! If the wastegate actuator rod is lengthened the actuator will decrease the load on
the spring and decrease the pressure level at which the actuator will open and total boost pressure the turbo can generate will
decrease. If the wastegate actuator rod does not put enough pre-load on the wastegate valve then you could see boost
fluctuations of + or - 3psi even when the wastegate solenoid duty cycles are constant. If you have a stock turbocharger then
you should not have to adjust the wastegate rod length. From what we have seen, the factory MS3 wastegate actuator is
pretensioned to 7-9psi. When I have run the vehicle on 0% WGDC the turbo produces around 7-10psi

LoL im not that old ( no offense ) but i've been driving turbo cars for 16year now. Remember i asked about the preload on the ATP actuator? i havent seen the actual actuator but i would like to guess probably a half release twist on the arm would decrease a couple psi....i'm assuming, i havent seen it in person.

anyway please dont start a bitching war, im tired of seeing the shit on the speed forums to be quite honest.
