gt3076 and restrictor pill

Im going to be picking up a GT3076 and i will use it Internally wastgated. I have read that i need a restrictor pill.. Im going to be using a AP to tune. what restrictor pill do i need and were does it go?

id start with a .040" restrictor pill. You will shove it in the boost tube coming off your of boost source nipple. (buy one of those ATP quicktaps)

F the stock boost controller, it blows anyways.

Get a MBC, adjust it if you need to.

you can get ones that adjust from inside the cabin.

im paying to get a custom FULL protune. we are talkign parth throttle and full throttle tune.. JJ thanks ill use a 40.

JJ, i checked the entire atp websight and i cant find any restrictor pills. can somone link me to were i can purchase one

Go to Lowes or Home Depot and pick up various sizes of mig welding tips. They come in I.D. sizes from .020 all the way up to .045 in .005 increments. The outside diameter is 6mm which will fit very snug into the vacuum tubing.

so would u guys say get .035 .040 and .045 JJ im assumign u tried the .040 pill before and it worked fine on the stock boost control?????

Best to start out with a bigger pill, and then work your way down if need be. Bigger pill = more air flowing to the actuator = lower boost if it's the wrong size.

Start out with too small a pill and you could start out with a pile of shit in your drivers seat. I think 0.04" is a good starting point.

since im getting the custom tune does it matter what pill i go with. i mean how will i know if i have the best pill in there before i go to take it to be tuned.

You'll see where your WG DC table ends up. Ideally you want it in the 30's ish near redline. Anything lower and you may have creep issues.

If your pill is too big, then you'll be having WGDC levels super high, like 70's 80's near redline, this means your having a hard time bleeding enough air away from the actuator (through the solenoid).



My honest guess though, is your going to witness creep issues if you seriously want to use the IWG. You have to do some serious porting (and methodical porting) to make it work. JJ got his to work, but he's also at a much higher elevation, so ymmv.


I say go ewg and then you can choose between stock solenoid or a nice easy 3 port solenoid.

now when u say to look at my wategate DC is this after a tune or is this bolt it on, run it with cobb beta map and see were it is...

Well i'm sure if you going to get it tuned, your tuning would alert you of a problem, like "dude your wastegate values seem really low, i'm worried about boost control in colder temps" or something like that.

If you feel upto it, this is stuff you could get sorted out before the getting tuned.

You would basically start out with a larger pill, 0.04 is fine i think. Change your map to something safe, like very very low WGDC values, and low boost requests. Then drive it around for a while a log the boost, WGDC, loads etc etc. Then you can slowly refine things and bring your boost up. If your having a hard time reaching the desired boost, and your loggin WGDC values in the 90's and 100's, you need a smaller pill.


It's much simpler with EWG, and even more simple with a 3 port solenoid. Plus less risk of creep. I think EWG is the safe route

do i need to have the wastgate flapper welded shut or can i just leave the wastgate on there but not hooked up to hold it closed

You'll need to either weld it shut, or fab a bracket to hold it shut.

this is what i built for my buddy (msp6cop) and myself:






It uses the stock flapper arm (where the stock actuator arm threads into), but i just made a bracket that replaced two washers on the compressor bolts, and threaded a bolt into the flapper arm and doubled up two nuts to hold it shut.

I'm not using it yet cause i STILL don't have my manifold, but msp6cop has been running his for quite some time.

I prefer the bracket over welding, cause it's not permanent.

im going to weld it. superskater knows of a shop by my house that will do EWG to my PG mani with dump and everything. they will weld it shut for me

Just for information, you can get fixed orifice restricters from a pneumatics supply store. They come with hose barbs on them and range from 0.005" to 0.040". Also come in filtered, and non-filtered. They would make changing "pills" very easy. FYI.

Side note, but not completely unrelated. I'm running the stock turbo with a greddy EBCS 3 port actuator. The boost source is coming off of the compressor (stock location) with the stock pill in place. Should I take the stock pill out?

If your running it in "bleed mode" where the solenoid is essentially bleeding air away from the actuator in order to build higher boost, keep the pill.

If you running in "interrupt mode" (similar to a MBC), where the solenoid opens at a certain boost level, fill the actuator with air, you don't need the pill.


I'm willing to bet your in bleed mode if your using stock ecu control. To set the ecu to run interrupt mode would take a fair amount of tuning, but i do think it's possible.

I'm using the greddy profec b spec 2, not stock.
gonna see which ports are connected.

I have it connected to the "com" and "no" ports. Now in the directions is doesn't say it's in "bleed mode" but I would guess it is due the the fact that in the directions, under my setup is specifies "Be sure ALL plugs are removed from the solenoid".

lol, i haven't studied that solenoid specifically, so i'm not much help, and don't have time to look at it while at work.

basically, if your solenoid opens and flows when your under-boosting (trying to build higher boost), your probably in 'bleed mode'. If your solenoid opens after you've reached your target boost, your probably in 'interrupt mode'.

im using a greddy profect b spec 2 also but with a perrin solinoid. works great. i like being able to switch it to low boost for when other ppl drive my car.

Did you leave the pill in? what connections did you use?

I sent an e-mail to Greddy asking them what they suggest as restrictors are not covered in the installation manual.

i forgot to ask. since im going EWG do i still need a restrictor pill>?

no i didnt use any pills.. i can upload a pic if u need it. on how its hooked up?

im setting up my EWG using factory boost control. so i need a pill?

If your going to use factory control, in "bleed mode" where the ecu bleeds air away from the actuator, you will need a pill.

Basically all the pill does is keep the boost source from over loading the solenoid and opening up the waste gate even when the ecu wants more boost.

Sure that would be great. I used the "COM" and "NO" ports on the valve. Where did you get your boost signal from?

can i put a T in the boost line that goes from intake manifold to BPV or does the boost source need to be next to the turbo. if im hooking up the EWG with the same configurate as stock wastegate do i need a pill or NO. im still getting lost with this hole pill BS

i know what u mean i didnt have time to deal with that bs so i just went ebc.. simple and easy
