Stock turbo can hold about 18 psi before running out of its efficiency range.

We need a solid write up on those PID settings. I've read that toaster analogy a ton of times but the numbers still seem arbitrary to me...but I'm a lil slow lol.

Is there difference between an upgraded stock turbo or simply stock?

Huge difference, I will list them from out upgraded to stock.

SST:
Billet wheel (PTP exclusive) vs cast
clipped turbine wheel vs non clipped
ported exhaust housing, no port work
Ceramic on the SST, nothing on the stocker.

We take the time to upgrade the bearings and seals as well with the Mazda turbos as well.

Our upgraded stocker will allow 30 to 50 WHP gains to be seen over what the stock turbo makes. The billet wheel option is the only billet option on the market and if you have been in the know on turbos... billet is the only way to go now with the power numbers that some people are making with billet wheels.

Yes, there is a difference. A larger wheel, port and polished compressor/impeller housing and clipped exhaust wheel to increase response. The super stock turbo from Protege Garage flows about 35% more air, and is efficient up to about 25.5 psi, but really packs a punch and is very happy at 22 psi.

With an upgraded WGA you can see as high as 18 psi at 6200 RPM on the stock turbo. With the SST we have seen as high as 23 psi at 6700 RPM with our WGA.
