Default HP Gains- fully bolted w/stock TMIC vs. FMIC/bigger TMIC

I'd like to start a thread for those of you to post with any information, logs, data, etc. regarding your pre-fmic or bigger tmic vs. fmic or bigger tmic when fully bolted on the k04.

Things I think would be the most helpful to everyone: Pre- and post-BAT's, fueling adjustments or LTFT/MAF calibration adjustments, WGDC, and boost levels.

This is intended to be a great source for those of us mostly-bolted folks without an intercooler upgrade just yet; downpipe, intake, tip, fuel pump, accessport, maybe CBE.

when going back to stock tune(had bought and sold two aps when running this set up) with stock TMIC, the car felt noticeably slower.

after adding my fmic and going back to stock tune again(bought and sold two more aps) i stuck with stock tune for a few months, the second time. the power increase from fmic was def noticeable since bats are much cooler than with stock tmic and they stay cooler much longer.

sucks i didnt keep my logs

i drove around with my current mods on stock tune for a minute and the car pulled hard. but i began to get load cut so i had to get a protune.

i decided to jump on the tmic when they came out cheap. I went with the cp-e tmic. It flows way better than the stock pos. You have more low end, it takes less throttle for daily driving as the restriction is not there.

Id have to dig around for stock tmic logs. It definitely heat soaks more. Ive seen as high as 180 in the summer here with 100 degree ambient temp.

With the cp-e tmic, cruising temp is 40 degree above ambient at 135.

i run about 19psi to redline on the k04. boost temps climps fast, after some heat soak and 1-4 pull ive seen 160. but after a 1-4 pull typical its around 140. All with 100 degree ambient temp so about 110 intake temp with my cai.

That being said im considering ditching the tmic and buying a cx racing fmic

Down here in the south the TMIC is def. going to heatsoak more than the fmic, but the bigger tmic's are definitely a marked improvement over stock, no question. Seems to me the big tmic v. fmic is merely a preference question, so I'm not going to want to delve into that debate here.

Stock top mount has a flow limit of something like 330-335 crank hp. I did 310 with it all natural and 319 with meth stock turbo. I watched laloosh full bolted do 327 with a cpe fmic on the same dyno same day I did 319. There you have it. after market fmics won't gain you a hell of a lot on a stock turbo cause a stock turbo is out of breath at that point anyway. Plus the extra piping hurts spool time.

Stock turbo w/ Meth = fmic price wise and gains wise when cost vs gains is compared

In terms of airflow, you won't gain anything. The stock TMIC flows enough for a maxed out K04. The biggest problems with the TMIC, and where you lose power with it, are the higher BAT's. They will heatsoak faster, and they take longer to cool down compared to aftermarket options.

Yeah, I got the corksport TMIC from when they were going for cheap, and I didn't gain any power at all - MAF g/s and calc load are exactly the same with a properly calibrated tune for your MAF.

I have a log somewhere showing BATs of 120-130F sustained when it was ~100F out, no meth. So IMO the TMIC is a waste until you're making 300 whp+

IMO, if you're going to just work with the stock turbo, I'd skip the I/C upgrade and just get a meth setup instead. Intake + DP + Fuel Pump + Tune + Meth = probably like 300 whp for ~ $2000

The only thing I notice with the TMIC is that I can do more WOT pulls before I see heat soak, but not by enough to justify the price.
