(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score So i was looking at my junk turbo collection in the garage the other day and found an old gt2860 I have had for a while. I also stumbled upon an old stock subaru mitsubishi turbo too. I was eyeballing them and the wheels in my head began turning. I was bored the last few days at work so I designed a set of flanges to make a garrett t25/28 flange bolt up to a stock mazdaspeed manifold. I also designed the correct amount of offset to put the oil and coolant feeds in the correct spot to be used on the speed with minimal modification. I also designed an adapter flange for the downpipe which would allow you to bolt up a mazdaspeed downpipe to the T28 turbo. The biggest I could go with this exhaust housing is a 2876 or 3076, but at the cost of those turbos + the fact that the garrett has different threads and locations for the oil / coolant lines, It would be about the same money to buy a ms specific turbo from atp, and therefore not worth the conversion flanges being used. Now on to the subaru/mitsu turbo.... I was thinking of maybe using a td06 20g turbo as it would supply about 43 lb's a minute which should easily get me to my 350whp goal. I designed a set of flanges for it as well, but determined that it wouldn't work as a bolt on solution. Alignment and fitment would have been terrible. I did however notice that the mitsubishi turbo chra's use the same thread pattern as the k04 and the oil return line flange is the same... Got me thinking... You can purchase a t28 turbine housing that is made to accept a mitsubishi td06sl2 chra. You can put either a 20G or a 25G compressor housing on the other side. So if i get everything right I can have a decent journal bearing mitsubishi td06 20g for about $900 with the flanges and it will for the most part bolt right on. td06sl2 20g will make 430 crank hp if properly supported. Clip the turbine wheel and use a 25g compressor and wheel and possibly get 48-50lb/min out of one, but the smaller sl2 turbine will be the limiting factor. I am going to be making some mock up flanges and see if everything fits using the gt2860 I have. I might be on to a less expensive but still good alternative to an atp turbo. So far this is just an idea coming from my boredom. Am I crazy, or is this worthwhile to pursue? Let me know what you think!!! Oh, and I know the stock manifold sucks, but I am trying to come up with a low cost bolt on option here. Renderings Below. Flange Studs top And bottom And the downpipe adapter

| Not Ranked : 0 score I'd be interested in seeing you use the mitsu turbo honestly, but I think the idea of using an adapter flange for the DP is going to cause some clearance issues with the downpipe downstream of the turbo.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I also am in the process of drawing up a flange for a 1g dsm turbine housing, but it would require a custom downpipe. You could run a bigger turbine wheel and a 25g compressor and make 400+ whp easily with this setup. And the beauty is you could run an external wastegate on a stock manifold or stock style manifold as the wastegate is divorced on the 1g dsm. Just remove the flapper and port the housing. But again, may be pointless.

| Not Ranked : 0 score the point that caught my eye was apparently how fast the 20G seemd to spool on this platform. Fueling "may" have been the issue, but i have seen evos with 20g's move, and we have a 2.3L. I dont doubt that things capable of some serious low end grunt, but hell with all the breakthroughs Cobb has had recently, we can tune for damn near anything.

I know you are just trying to help out. Thanks. Mitsubishi turbos are known to be very reliable. And easily rebuildable if need be. You can source tons of parts online from various reputable suppliers.

| Not Ranked : 0 score in for win. I actually had the same idea of just designing an adapter that would allow us to use different flanged turbos, but I never got around to actually drawing it. Keep up the work! A 2.3L on a 20g would spool the fuck out of that thing, and probably hold pretty good up top too.

This would be a nice inexpensive option for those folks aiming for the roughly 350-425whp range. I Tapped that

| Not Ranked : 0 score Big 16G or 20g will make good ass power and spool fast as shit....The highest hp 16g evo is 500 whp with full bolt ons and E85 and boost them at like 30-35lbs and make good ass power and hold up decently long....Plus they are cheap to rebuild. Buddy of mine also has a 16g on his talon and that bitch moves, on race gas or 85, can't remember....Another buddy with an sti just put a 20g on with a fully bolt motor.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Seeing your drawings gave me some ideas. I would not use the k04 turbine housing because you would limit flow. If you make a adaptor flange for the 20g, and get the oil feed line close. You would have something there. 20g's are cheap, china versions are less than 500 bucks. and comes with gaskets. A true big 16g, with flanges would out flow the k04. And it woud spool crazy quick. I have some housings, if you need them. I have been selling them as cores for bnr upgrades. I like the idea of a 20g or even the 25 wheels. Problem with those turbos is past 22 psi they need ewgs anyways. They never run out of flow, good design, and are relativley cheap. Id say put together a package with a 20g, with adaptors to mate the stock downpipeand stock mani, get the oil feed line close, cause it has a little movement. and supply a new oil drain line and you would have a good upgrade for less than a bnr. cxracing.com: TD05 Big 20G Turbocharger ,oil and water cooled, Fits 89-99 1G 2G Eclipse, Talon, Laser Cheap 20g, would require a j pipe to make the turbo outlet close to tmic location. Plus turbo inlet..... Last edited by ekanddsm; 11-15-2012 at 12:00 PM. Reason: MSF Database - Automerged Doublepost |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Wow i was trying to do this also, i have a td05h 20g i was gonna rebuild with a td06h turbine, performance thrust bearing, 3" inlet compressor housing, billet compressor wheel, etc. when i priced it out, it cost like 600 to do this to the turbo. i wish i had autocad still, as i was going to ask if someone can design an adapter flange like you did (NICE). i figured to ease fabrication, buy a mitsu and mzr flange and use a 3" length of 2.25" pipe with a 38mm vband in the middle to integrate a wastegate. I'd love to see where you go with this bro. PM me also we can bounce ideas off each other. EDIT: Also, looked at forced performance, they have a 8cm (.63 a/r) td05 turbine housing that they can modify to fit a td06 OR use the trick ass Bullseye power stainless turbine housing if you can find it.

| Neutral : -1 score I was actually attempting this last month, but due too some complications and time restraints i ended up going with an atp. I will post pictures up tomorrow night of the work i did. I was planning on using a evo3 16g. Over all the compressor and turbine wheel were about 6mm bigger from what i had found.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score My thoughts on this are telling me to skip the t28 flange route. I am going with a td06 Dsm turbine 20 g wheel and compressor and a custom downpipe to allow an external wastegate. If all works well then I may see about duplicating parts. I think the 20g won't perform without the external wg. And a td05 turbine would hurt power potential.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Fwiw, The tdo5 turbine had a 6mm bigger inducer and exducer on the turbine wheel itself, compared to the stock turbine . As far as the housings a/r size I'm not sure how they would compare. Also on the evo 16g , the water lines are 14mm( same as stock) the oil return uses the same flange and the oil feed is 12x1.25 (stock is 12x1.5). I'm sure the 20g would be the same.
