New Turbo

I got a downpipe installed on my car about 3 months ago. My car is now smoking profusely when idling and oil is coming out of the exhaust upon first start up. Would anyone recommend getting a new Ko4 where would I order this from? Or get the bnr s3 or the corksport turbo? Give me input I am currently running cobb stage 2 tune. I am looking to keep the car in good working order without issues. I daily drive the car to work and class. Also any quotes from shops on cost of install and help would be great thanks.

IMO a k04 isn't worth the price when a bnr s3 is almost the same.

Only idiots who try to run them on a Cobb OTS map usually have problems.

I haven't had any problems with mine post install. Everything working great.

Seriously though, type in "BNR S3 Mazdaspeed" on google and start doing some reading.

Assuming OP has Accessport, simply raising idle rpm +200 may eliminate his smoking issue. If it did not smoke before the dp upgrade there is a chance this would work, and costs nothing to try.

Yes, I've been running T6 Rotella AND bumped up idle rpm for quite a few years with catless dp/rp and have never had turbo smoke. I'm at almost 120,000 miles. The original turbo did finally develop shaft wear back in the Spring. Never smoked. I replaced it with a rebuilt K04 from Works Turbo in the Birmingham, AL area for about $350, IIRC. It, like the original, has not smoked with the combo of raised rpm and the T6.

Keep in mind bnr will need a new tip. Inlet size is larger than oem

I have not tried a banjo bolt but I did put 5w-40 ams oil and it fixed the issue for about 2 weeks. I got the car looked at and he said I probably have 1 or 2 months before my turbo completely goes. What about the corksport turbo will that fit the cobb turbo inlet hose?

It will. Up the rpm to 900 at idle and problem will probably be solved. I have like 3 k04s sitting in my garage all rebuilt in case I have issues ever prior to going BT

It has no discernable effect on engine life. I'm at almost 120,000 miles and did this about six years ago. I check compression when I change plugs and am still 180-190 psi on every cylinder. I can't even tell that fuel mileage went down. If so, probably no more than 1 mpg. I idle at about 800-900 now.

If you have a stiff aftrrmarket rear motor mount or intend to add stiffer mounts, bumping up idle helps alot with that, too.

Keep in mind as well you will need a new tune for that turbo. The crappy Cobb ones will not work.

Yes I know. I was hoping the local shop near me CB tuning would be able to put together a good tune for me as they are the ones installing it.

Install it yourself and save a ton of money! It's easy. I've pulled my turbo on more than one occasion. And use a tuner that actually knows what they're doing on this platform.

From what I have experienced our motors are a little on the "special" side and your normal honda pro tuner probably will blow your shit up. Contact one of our etuners they will set you up right and walk you through it all

The "special side" is the nice way to word it. At least for my car. My car is constantly pissed off at the world and me for some reason. She has a pretty bad attitude problem. Moody car. With how moody these damn cars are you really do need a good tuner for this platform or your car may bite you right back and blow

Turns out cylinder 2 was full of oil.

Just sayin', if you're smoking immediately from start up (when the oil and turbo are not hot yet) it may not be the turbo.

That's true! I remember after I did my downpipe my pcv valve simultaneously took a shit and I was freaking that my turbo went lol. (Pcv valve would make you burn oil if bad)

How do I get in contact with one of the etuners? I am now giving some thought to installing myself. The only extra parts I would have to buy with the corksport turbo would be a 3.5 bar map sensor and a boost control solenoid correct?

Dont absolutely need either. I run a 3 bar but cs jus came out with a 3.5 that would be a good choice. Ebcs isnt required but helps.

If you are tight on funds buy the turbo and use points they give you on the 3.5bar or call and see if they can make you a good deal.

From convos with CS it is highly suggested to use an ebcs upgrade.
