Default OBX test pipe review

i just put this test pipe on yesterday. i used a lift and it took a total of about 1 1/2 hours by myself. the pipe doesnt come with any instructions but it is pretty easy to figure out. the quality of the welds and bends are great as well as the supplied nuts and bolts. For under 100$ shipped this was a great buy. As far as sound goes, it is everything i was looking for. while cruising you wont even notice but under acceleration or deceleration there is a small but noticable difference. As far as performace goes, i would say it has small gains but i installed a TIP and Test pipe at the same time and noticed descent gains. would i recommend this product? yep

on a side note, does anyone have or have heard a speed3 with a test pipe and res delete?

I got mine in the mail today. Should be able to install it tomorrow.

The quality looks top notch.

For less than $85 shipped it looks like it's worth every penny

There are alot of speeds out there with a test pipe and a res delete. This was an especially big thing for the genpu's for a while. It gives a bit of drone but much better exhaust note in the end.

I installed mine yesterday, awesome quality for the $$$! it took longer to uninstall the stock pipe than to install the new. Another user on here told me that the hangers aren't needed, I was skeptical but after installing I tried shaking it and it isn't going anywhere haha.

because the stock piece weighs a lot more than the test pipe. That's why the hangers are needed on stock

props to you sdiegel5 doing it with jack stands. It was tough to reach the DP bolts even with it being on a lift let alone laying down on the ground...

Oh I didn't have to remove the skid plate or take those nuts off. I re-used the stocks bolts to the DP and just used the long ones for the connection to the CBE.

i had to take off the brace and also take the next two exhaust hangers in order to push it back so the cat would have room to come out.

OBX only means fail for me. Im pretty sure its the china ebay brand. Im sure it will work just fine and have no doubts that it will last forever, but I could never get over telling people that I have OBX parts lol.

not me, i am not trying to drive a loud car or chance having bad drone. with just the test pipe it sounds mean. i love it. IMO our exhaust already flows pretty well. im sure you will get a few extra ponies but its not worth it to me. i do too many long trips to deal with a loud exhaust for 10-11 hours at a time.

I'm new to the forum. I'm just curious how does this seal to the catback? There doesn't seem to be a seal. Unless the part with the loose exhaust flange goes toward the downpipe. Any input is appreciated. I'd like to know before I order it.

I installed the OBX test pipe not to long ago and it sounds great.

That being said, when the car is completely warmed up and I'm going over speed bumps I can hear a fairly loud squeaking. It doesn't happen when the car is cold which is weird, but might make sense if the metal expands when it's warm.

Also, when the engine is warm, I can turn the wheel so power steering pump makes the idle speed raise and I can hear the squeaking.

My thought is to tack on some exhaust hangers to the TP and hope for the best.

Anyone else have this problem?

That sounds like a bushing problem. If it squeaks only over speed bumps you may have a worn or busted bushing in the suspension. My sway bar end link was broken and it made a horrible popping sound and i thought it was my exhaust smacking something before I looked. Take a good look at your bushings on the exhaust also

Well the problem is that when the car is warm and idling I can just slightly move the wheel and the idle speeds up. As soon as it idles slightly higher I can hear hear this faint squeaking. Also, when warm and idling, I can roll the windows up and down which slightly increases the idle speed and I get the same result.

It could be that you didn't tighten the bolts enough. Metal expands when it gets hot. If that's not the case then I don't know what to tell you. And idle speed does go up just enough to hear the difference when you run the A/C or turn the wheel. That's completely normal, unless it's a ridiculous amount. Then you may want to check your alternator or battery.

did you reuse the springs or just bolt it straight up? Also (because I'm unfamiliar with the obx pipe), does it reuse the stock doughnut gasket to connect to the cbe or does it expand at the cbe end and just seal up using the metal?

Its just a branded ebay testpipe. looks the same, proven already, and makes the oem exhaust - 1 res sound good / thread.
