Default OBX Turbos

Anyone have any thoughts? THey are hella cheap and look identical to the Garret turbos. They have a GT2871 clone for $550.

Any feedback? I am scared to do this, but it is gonna cost me the same to rebuild my stock turbo.

on the sr20-forums people using them had the compressor blades fly into throttle bodys if that helps.

I just bought 2x rebuild KKK K16 turbos for my other project on ebay a few weeks ago for $120 bucks each. The K16's have titanium compressor wheels and plain bearings. I think the k16 is smaller than the Mazdaspeed K04 however. Next size up is a K24 which might work. You can find these for less than $400 used/rebuilt.
Also check out this site:
Bullseye Power Turbos
The S258 turbo is great from what I hear. Very wide compressor map and high peak efficiencies. Not too expensive either.

Garrett and turbonetics turbos are great but the prices are just ridiculous.
You can also try mitsu or IHI turbos. They are not bad either.

Definitely would NOT go with that OBX crap. Better off with a used or rebuilt turbo if you are on a budget. Unless the turbine or compressor wheel is chiped, or the casings are in bad shape, its just the same as new. IMO at least...

i know some guys that buy these turbo's for dirt cheap, send them to our local turbo rebuild shop and i have the tech there go through them and balance everything, he'll also replace any garbage parts with quality ones... he does this for about $400... so for $800-900 you have a 100% quality 35R, etc....

when you know someone like this, its a good buy actually
