(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I got it to 15 psi last night before it blew the pipe off again, and it felt awesome! Runs fine when the pipe blows off too, just no boost. It's like driving a 6i with an exhaust and an intake, lol. I'm trying to find someplace locally I can have weld it all up for me this week. Then I'll have no worries until I 'need' a larger housing. Funny note, iat never goes above 90, but bat still climbs to low 100s. Even though the sensors are ~12" apart, lol. |

nice work man... bat's being higher have to do with the intake manifold conducting head from the head. you have a significantly larger surface area of the intake manifold that mates to the head... and the manifold is aluminum which conducts heat well. the thin wall of piping for the MAF will not soak up as much heat. | |

| Not Ranked : 0 score This is exactly what I'm thinking. There is a nice length of straight pipe right before the throttle body that could be replaced witih a larger pipe and MAF housing and air straightener. |

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I've been driving around like this with no problem for the last couple days. Mostly in closed loop though. I'll be talking to a welder tomorrow, so if you want, you could sit tight til the weekend. This WILL be 100% opperational after saturday, one way or another. I really hope I won't be maxing out the maf at wot though, cause I still don't have a way to tune the damn thing, lol. I know I will be with the 60 trim, but I don't want to have to use a bigger maf for the stocker. That would suck, lol. |

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Here's what happens when you don't use the right things to start with... Happens whenever I get to anxious and foot-happy. Once it's all welded together, I won't have any more worries about this though. I think I'm going to use ECUedit to scale the MAF for 3". I have a tactrix openport 2.0 en route, but I need Epifan to get back to me with some answers first. So I need to scower the atr section on msf pretty soon so I can get the flash ready to load while I'm waiting on the welder. I'll drive nice and easy for a hundred miles or so if all seems well and take it from there. Oh, here's another shot of the maf... |

| Not Ranked : 0 score get rid of those cheapo slippery couplers that are too short! and those failures they call worm clamps. i never had my piping on my 240 bead rolled. i should have but the baller ATP couplers at the times with T-bolt clamps held 20 something psi on a big ass t3/t4. plus i had my piping damn near butted up against each other inside the couplers, it was a tight fit setup. i bet if you got some t-bolt clamps and some nicer couplers (try 4 or 5 ply), you would be pretty well off. that one coupler looks like the autozone spectre stuff i bought and fabbed up once. works good for an intake, not so much for pressurized piping

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Nope, I'm not spending any more money on couplers or clamps right now. I have a 4 ply 3" coupler (now holding the two 90* pipes together so far) with t-bolts, and a 4 ply 3"-2.75" reducer (now on the bottom side of the assembly and holding) also with t-bolts. One of those will end up holding the whole thing to the tb once it's all welded. If that doesn't hold, I guess I'll have to try a hump hose. Don't want to though. I also want to make note that my IAT has decreased from what it would read in the stock location. On a 70* day, it used to read ~95* with a gutted stock airbox with the BAT sitting between 90* and 105* depending on how fast I was moving. Now with outside temps in the 80s, I'm seeing ~85-90* on the IAT and 95-110* on the BAT. In traffic the BATs can climb to ~115* or so. I thought they would be a closer measurement since they are both being taken after the ic, but it seems that either the ecu is using the maf AND map to calculate the BAT, or there is alot of heat transfering to the map, possibly through the intake manifold. Again, this is all in closed loop cruizing and mild-average excelleration conditions only as of right now. |

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score It's all measured. It's just too much powah for the pos couplers I'm using, lol. Just as I finish reading the reply from epifan, the package carrying my openport 2.0 cable lands on my desk. He says it can change everything in the ECU I inquired about and alot more, so I'm going to go ahead and buy it tonight after work. Now all I'm waiting on is the honeycomb air straightener and I can weld everything up. Wish me luck! |

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Thanks guys! I'm finding that the Standard version of ECUedit will let me download the stock configuration and edit it, but that I will need the Pro version to flash it back. I wonder if fireboy would be willing to let me borrow his flash software for a day or two to load up my map when I make it, lol. Or maybe by actually purchasing the standard version of ECUedit, they'll be more prompted to get the Pro version completed since they now have at least one customer. I think I'm going to have the welder lay a 1/8" bead around the inside of the 3" housing where the sensor sits, then when the Pro version is ready, I can just grind that out with my dremel tool and flash away. That way I could at least test blow-thru with higher boost right now. BTW, I just got my honeycomb peice today. It's 7"x7", so I should be able to get four 3" round peices out of it. It is 3/4" thick with 3/16" cells. If it works, I'll probably sell the other three peices. Just a heads up. If the shop is opened saturday, I'll try to get up there then. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score wtf? so i guess ECU EDIT isn't just a clever name, and all it does is edit... Hmmmmm. Seems stupid to me if you can't get the code back in. I'm not sure that 1/8" bead would be ideal. Seems more turbulent than anything. Maybe they could tack weld a sleeve into the housing to bring it down to 2 3/4". And then you could just grind off the tacks later on. Or, i wonder just how far "off" it would be with a 3" pipe. I know 3 1/4 & 3 1/2 are quite a bit different, but i wonder if your LTFT's could compensate for 3" as it is. Just an idea.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score The pro version can do anything, but the standard (which is the only version curently available for mazdaspeeds) can only download and change. People with evos and stis that have the standard can flash with ECUflash, another program. I'm going to try to get them to do something for us if epifan acts like he's going to take forever. Slight progress... |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Looks really good. I may need to get one of those honeycomb pieces from you. Is there going to be any issues with the straightener being so close to the MAF sensor? Don't other intakes position the straightener further away? |
