Default over boosting heavily... :(

mods as in sig, plus Grimspeed 3 port solenoid and gutted second cat.

started hitting fuel cut, so drove nice for a while, finally got time to look at things. Boost is reading at 22.7 scary psi when heavy footed. Maps are set to 16.5 with some correction built into the tables. also fuel cut is set to 18.5?

lowered my WGDC to mid 30's(%). Was at around mid-high 40's. Same psi as before.

I am pretty sure I have the solenoid hooked up correctly as I haven't changed it and I was at 16-18 psi before, depending on gear, temp etc. I can hear the solenoid rattling away at lower rpm/throttle.

I have a boost tuning type map(box checked) based on boost tune maps with the load ramping sharply up. First thing I checked was that I didn't accidentally uncheck that, and the car is trying to hit 3.0-5.0 load...

please? and thank you.

you're pegging the sensor. Make sure your ebcs is hooked up correctly, if it's not you'll overboost like that. I pegged my 3 bar when I first installed the 3071 because of this.

yea, I figured it might be. Thing is, it solenoid has been in it for a while now, and only lately is it overboosting like this. lines are all hooked up, solenoid is plugged in.

You need to really fix this. My stock boost sensor read somewhere around 22-23 psi and when I got my 3 bar, it told me I was really boosting over 25 psi.

Need to check all your vacuum lines and wastegate linkage. Also, the tip from the intake breaks off a lot of times.....

yea, Im going to dive into it tomorrow. I am going to try a much earlier revision map, one that I know was making less bost than I wanted. I have had a quick look at the vacuum lines off the Grimmspeed controller and it all seemed ok. I can hear it cycling at lower rpm anyway, so I know its at least moving. I will test to see if it is opening and closing, not just flopping back and forth. I will also try to find out if the wastegate is stuck or something.

I wonder if there is anything that the map that I have frigged up inadvertently? I have been adding authority to the wastegate dynamics, error compensation.

I'm wiling to bet you entered a wrong value or multiplier somewhere.

Hence why you need to post logs and/or the map.

I had to take one of the pets to the vet this morning and I flashed an old map, one of my first that I was using the Grimmspeed controller. I remember distinctly that this map was making too little, only around 13 psi as I was being conservative with the WGDC numbers. On the trip to the vets, I watched the boost numbers on the Cobb screen. Still hitting boost cut and showing 20 psi. Not full throttle and I let off as soon as I saw the big numbers. I don't think its in the map, unfortunately. I can post a map or two if anyone would like to go thru it? I'd appreciate the critique anyway. I am not a pro tuner by any means.

tried to add a map, not sure how to add a file? I can see how to add links or pics, but not files?

I have no input on overboost cause but I would highly recommend a guardian angel from stratified so when things like this happen you won't blow your motor.....

Check all the vacuum lines from your boost source to your WGA. If one of them is cracked or something you won't be able to open your waste gate.

^^ This.

To me, it sounds like the line from your boost reference to your wastegate actuator isn't hooked up properly, or is cracked. If it was, the diaphragm in the WGA wouldn't ever get pushed in the right direction to open the wastegate itself. You might also want to double-check that the wastegate arm isn't stuck itself.

Post some logs of the problem.

yep, going to check the wastegate for function, and all the lines a little more closely. Pretty sure its not hooked up incorrectly as it has been good for several months, and I haven't changed any routing. I will check for any cracks or loose fittings.

ok, solved. closer inspection shows that the little wee cap on the bottom wastegate actuator nipple was cracked. leaking out all the boost that is supposed to open the wastegate. its was pretty rotten to be honest. Not been on there that long either.

put a new one on there and its now boosting 16.4psi and I have the map set for 16.5. Happy happy. time to turn up the boost a bit.

Bah I wish I had seen this originally. I had a grimmspeed 3 port on my speed 6 and that cap rotted away on me as well in <6 months. I actually contacted them and they said they were going to look into it. This was in.....2012-2013? I guess they didn't replace the oens they were sending out. I grabbed a bag of little silicon caps from the local parts shop and it was fine after that.

On the WG nipple I would use a hose, clamp and bolt rather than those silicone caps; they fail all the time.
@MSP6; for the EBCS, unthread the nipple from the EBCS and find a plug to screw in there instead.

Well, if you eventually do, keep in mind that our EBCS comes with the required plug

thanx, yea the tune was clearly not at fault here.

I did use a piece of overly strong fuel line, capped off with a threaded bolt. its way stronger than the old one.
