Default PG Turbo Inlet Impressions and Review

Mods: CPE nano, HKS ssqv (recirc)

Inlet:
Came boxed nicely, only thing missing was some vacuum line for the boost solenoid, but that wasnt a big deal since i just took some from work. I did wipe out the insides to remove any dust and dirt. PG even through in a set of mazda valve caps which was cool and unexpected.

Product quality was great
Fitment:
Didnt fit 100% EXACTLY like the OE piece, but was good enough that it didnt run into any install issues with it not lining up with anything.

Install tips:
definitely install the coupler on the turbo first before you put the inlet on. Bolt the inlet onto the mount and slide it into the coupler and it will just fall into place.

For removing the vacuum line for the solenoid: take your time. Dont yank or pull on the line. use a small flathead and work the hose off. I found it easiest to maximize your room was to remove it off the inlet first and than the solenoid. that way you dont have the hose in the way. Use the flathead on the bottom of the hose and break the "seal" so you can slowly push the hose off. By seal I mean that once the hose starts moving, it comes off pretty easy.

Impressions:
The turbo is definitely much louder. The spool is audible at even slight throttle, and it definitely spools up much faster.

At speed it seems to recover boost much quicker as well.

When the HKS valve is run in recirc it makes a notable flutter sound. With the PG inlet, that flutter turns into a hoot (but with a flutter). Its much louder than the stock inlet. The sound also deepens and sounds more hollow (as a result of the metal pipe)

For the price its a bargain. Great fitment, easy install, and great results.

i just recently bought the pg inlet at protegegarage and i was very very satisfied with the service..I've bought a few things from them last year and the service was pretty bad...there was a lot of miscommunication but this time around, the service was very fast. I received a confirmation the very next day, and a tracking number...it took about 3 days to receive it..The website has changed for the better also and it's so easy to order. Im going to be ordering a few things from them soon...
I am also very satisfied with their inlet...it's nice and solid and i had no fitment issues with it...keep up the good job Protege Garage!

if i have CAI and I get the inlet, will this require a Tune? or an Access Port?
What engine/ exhaust mod's can I get by without a tune or an AP? I really don't know too much about internals and can;t afford to mess anything up. Tho I do intend to autocross soon!

CAI + Turbo inlet + Exhaust (sound only) ... down pipe???

If your only really looking for sound delete a resonator or two and get a test pipe. Sounds great and it's cheap. If u want power and sound do downpipe and test pipe thought I highly recommend a tune if you go this route.

Easy to install. Pull out your battery box, take off your intake, remove the old inlet and reverse the order for install. Just put the coupler onto the turbo with the clamps then put on the inlet it'll make your life alot simpler.

Installed mine yesterday. Install was pretty easy but as most in a small engine compartments its a pain to move around.

I have a CPE xcel and the sound seems to be different, don't know if it's louder but has a different tone. I like it so far...maybe still some break in time

you can do UP TO, fmic, inlet, intake, bov, and exhaust, when you get passed this route fuel cut is an issue, if your not looking for huge power the list i just gave you will give you plenty to have fun with....not on the street of course

that would be your turbo spooling up over your intake, its very normal, and sounds uber good

I installed my inlet yesterday, but I think I got a defective one. I could not get the bracket lined up at all. I had to remove a bracket that was on the top of the tranny for it to fit, or else it would not get into place. Mine did not come with a vacuum line either. It took some persuasion to get line up with my CAI.

On the other hand...
Driveability was nice. Love the sound.

Hi I've heard some great things about the PG turbo inlet pipe, great performance for a great price, I was wondering if anyone is using these on the gen 2 Mazdaspeed 3 and how it is on them fitment and performance wise. I got a K&N Typhoon intake to go on too, will the PG TIP fit nicely with the K&N intake?
thanks.

i just installed one and it fits perfect and can be used with any intake. Goes exactly where the stock one stops. GReat product and makes good power. Best part is the fitment vs the stocker at the turbo. The stocker doesnt stay on the turbo very good.

sorry to bring up an old thread but anyone know where I can get an alloy turbo inlet? I prefer it over the silicon as I like the sound it gives. Thanks.

I know they come for sale used here a lot. Donate $10 for VIP access. It is pretty easy to ship international.

If I could find a Cp-e or Cobb one used for a decent price, I'd sell you my CorkSport one.

I actually pulled mine off just last week. It held up just fine for over a year and a half.
Only thing I want to warn about is that since it's metal it's gets pretty hot after a while.y Cobb SRI was actually melted to it where the two pieces met

I have had mine for right at 2 years. Still working great.

Does PG even still make them?
