Default Preventing Smoking Turbo

I got my car back on Monday after having the turbo replaced under the 7 year extended warranty. Is the new turbo updated to not smoke? If not, is there anything to do to prevent it from happening again? I searched and only found how to get your already smoking turbo to stop smoking.

56,000. I've been using 5w40 Rotella, but Mazda made me pay for an oil change of 5w30 to make sure it still smoked after the oil change. Made no sense, but I think my total bill was close to $2400 and I only paid $38.

I've read all those, but they are generally for if you are already smoking. I have a new turbo so am not currently smoking. Maybe the concept is the same though, that's what I'm asking.

The bolt is the best from what I have read. I have one sitting to be installed, but I am still not smoking with 68,000. I have been using 5W40 synthetic since 20K and at about 45K got a Hypertech and raised idle to 850RPM. Now I have AP and still have it at 850rpm.

Consider all those things Bnoon wrote about in the thread of his notes as ways to fix and prevent. The way I see it, for those who could not get their turbos from smoking after doing all these things needed a new turbo, the seals were done. By doing the fixes now on a new turbo, you are preventing seal damage or at least extending the life of the seals.

For cars that have not had the valve cover upgrade and PVC relocate (the real fix), the simplest fix and the one that works well for me, even with a catless exhaust and almost 99,000 smoke free miles is to run Rotella 5-40s full synthetic oil and to raise idle rpm by +200.

it's really weird how some people's turbos smoke at 15k miles and some never do at 150k miles. i think there's some mystery factor at work that no one has identified

I will tell you this much, when I took my car in even with a dp, and full exhaust and intake set up, Mazda still replaced my turbo.

The service manager sent my vin to Mazda and they called Him back within three hours to tell him that they had sent a new turbo to the dealership.

Apparently Mazda was able to figure out exactly when they started putting in bad turbos, and mine was definitely one of them. All the other fixes, new turbo inlet, valve cover, oil type and weight and no bearing on my car smoking.

Mine dont smoke but sure burns oil cuz inseem to be missing oil everytime I check.. And I think its bs that they only extended the warranty and not just replace all bad turbos. My car was out of warranty when I got the letter..

Mine was out of the extended warranty by three months, and they still replaced it.

Check out some pics of improved turbo.. That is the revised K04. I have the an upgraded K04 with new seals and it still smokes. Heavier weight oil 5W40, bnoon or MD restrictor oil bolt would help.
