Default pte 6766 yea or nay?

Is anyone running one of the dual bb 6766's? Searched the forum but couldn't find much info... lots on the 62 and 64 though. Without compressor/turbine maps, I can't make heads or tails of why no one is running this turbo, where its ideal operating efficiencies are, how the hotside would change the spool/surge/choke point, etc.

If I run with a smaller a/r (like .68) could it feasibly allow me to tap the potential of this turbo? Or is it a complete waste of money, and if so, why?

Unless you have a setup that will support 800+, I would not be looking at this thing.

What is your current setup/ what are your future plans?

Future plans, full build, port injection, etc. Building for a BT.

The 6766 with the .68 hotside is rated for 700hp. I just want to know if it will operate efficiently in our powerband. I can't find anything concrete one way or the other.

I dont understand why people buy such large turbos with such a small A/R. You will be close to 700 with a 6266 and a normal A/R. If you want more a 6466 is more than you'll need.

You are choking the turbo up top with a small A/R and losing the benefit of the larger compressor. What's the sense of losing spool with a large compressor wheel if you are limiting it with a tiny A/R.

Fair enough. The main reason I was looking hard at the 6766 is the price... I have a line on a brand new one for 1/3 of the price new and wanted to know definitively whether it was an inefficient choice for the motor.

6766 is a 1000hp turbo. You'd be looking at lag-city on that thing.

Just get a JB 6266 and call it a day. That turbo is perfect for 450-800whp on a 3 and the JB version works just as well as the DBB, for nearly half the price.

nah, I'd get the bb version on a turbo that large. I'm glad I got the bb 5862.

Agreed the 6266 spools really fast and is still capable of hitting 800.

I assume if you were upgrading your meth nozzle that you are approaching 500?

Well, heh. had a vdyno a couple weeks ago, actually two, well above 500. Rob has high opinions of this turbo, just working out the fueling.
