Post Quick Turbo Inlet Size Opinions Needed >>>

Alright guys, I'm having BNR Supercars build me a Stage 3 turbo upgrade that utilizes a 2871 wheel in a stock housing... Which is perfect for my goals and won't have the IWG boost creep issues that are notorious with the GT line.

He asked me what inlet size I wanted as he can do stock (2.5") or whatever else...

I have no problem buying a new CP-E TIP for a 4" inlet , but my question is...

Which would be best for this wheel as it IS larger than the stock wheel, making me think that a larger inlet would be needed, but would it be better to have it go from 2.5" UP to 3" or 4" DOWN to 3"?

My reasearch tells me that the lower the intake restriction the better.

Please chim in as I want to take advantage of the 25% off sale going on.

Thanks guys,
Alpha

They sell both a stock inlet size (2.5") and a GT inlet size (4")

Just wondering if it's worth the swap considering the new wheel is larger than the stocker.

Yeah they do its $15 option, I think that would be ur best bet.

here's the link: http://www.cp-e.com/2138.html

Just so I understand cuz it sounds like a good idea:

Ur getting a GT2871 in a stock housing soo ur getting all the benfits of a larger turbo but w/o all the hassels of coolant lines, IWG's ect?

Exactly. I know the 2871 wheel isn't THAT much bigger, but the stock K04 wheel looks pretty maxed out on a 2.5" inlet.

Great, will do... I suppose I could always sell my stock replacement CPE TIP too for $125 or so. Thing's brand new.

The inlet itself is 3" but we're discussing the turbo inlet size of it that tapers either up to 4" for GTs or down to 2.5" stock.

Should be about 2-3 weeks out, but I'm going to wait to get everything installed and tuned until Spring.

first of all stock inlet is 2" not 2.5 and i dunno what trim the 28 wheel is but PTP'f upgraded wheel is the biggest u can put in there before u risk breaking the stock inlet walls. if you do go for a bigger inlet u can prob go up to like a 3" bell mouth but the stock AR on the comp and hot side are so small its not even worth it. not to mention stock CHRA is garbage. do it right and get an SST or BT.

The BNR rebuild completely replaces the stock CHRA to those from a journal bearing disco potato. Their stage 2 upgrades the compressor housing too, so i imagine the stage 3 mentioned here is replacing it as well.

I've been looking into the BNR rebuild myself and IMO it looks like a much better option than the SST. Completely replaces all of the questionable parts from the stock k04 for more durable garrett parts, basically just retaining the mounting points and turbine housing.

To the Op; are you at liberty to share any more details on the stage 3 build? Are they modifying the wg other than just the actuator arm? Interested...

Bryan's been running his Stage 3 with the IWG setup with no issues whatsoever such as common boost creep with the ATP GTs.

As you said, this is really the best option for those that want more than stock, but not all the headaches of the current BTs.

I'm not looking for big numbers/records or anything like that, just a peppy, realiable, and fun DD.

I have a single digit NA street car if I want to hang tires and go fast.

Thanks for the info...

FYI, I just got off the phone with Bryan and he mentioned some issues sourcing the wheels he would need for the stage 3. Might want to check with him to see what progress he's making.

Fuck me for even tracking down BNR; my wallet hurts already...
