Smoke at idle fixes, my thoughts and notes

I will next chance I get to drive her car. From my testing before we pretty much get no smoke at all under WOT unless I launch from 1st and there is still smoke left from idling. Like I mentioned above, and smoke is generally gone by the time we/she shifts to 3rd.

The 3 is easier because you can see them from under the car. Both jobs require a few tools but nothing very unusual or expensive. I found that I used the following : Screwdrivers Pliers Deepwell metric sockets (up to 14mm) Regular metric sockets Flex head ratchet wrenches (very useful) – Harbor Freight sell them for a good price A 22mm open head wrench (for the EGR flange nut at the IM) Various size extensions Universal joint for your socket set up Floor stands and O2 sensor removal tool if you plan on doing the turbo Gloves (or extra skin for your knuckles) A five gallon bucket of patience.

yeah those symptoms sound like blow by. I had the same thing when the ring lands in my toyota went, smoked bad under WOT, gushed oil etc etc

As far as the labor goes it can't be that bad. I'm coming from 3000GT/Stealth TT AWD V6. Done turbo swaps and all sorts of other mods on those. Also did full motor swap by hand on my toyota, tore down motor etc. MS3 is on the "easier" side by comparison. I've also read the write ups on how to media blast the valves clean, I got a compressor finally and just need the media blaster kit from harbor freight and a free saturday.

I'll check back in once we clean things up a bit and do some further testing. Thanks again for the replies guys.

A word of warning for those under warrantee:
Take out the bnoon bolt before you take your car in !
I had the ptp pill & bnoon bolt, no smoke for a long time but @100K it turned into a crop duster after idling for 30 seconds or more. I had an extended warrantee and I had to provide ALL oil change records and it got approved for a new turbo. The service guy told me the bnoon bolt (forgot to take it out) caused the turbo to fail and I'm lucky that it got fixed under warrantee.
So make sure you have ALL your oil change records and NO bnoon bolt installed when it goes to the dealer !!!!!
FYI the dealer charges about $2300 for a new turbo (installed).

10 month update :
She decided to spend the money at the dealer for the updated pcv/valvecover setup as well as vvt chatter fix. Vvt chatter went away, but smoking came back pretty quick. The AC bearing also went bad and was driven bad for some time which resulted in the entire clutch assembly being trashed. I'm amazed it didn't seize and burn the belt off after seeing it.

Ordered a BNR stage 1 and new AC compressor to get it back on the road and hopefully finally rid of the smoke, then selling it since we still have my Genpu MS3 and want an suv, no need for 2 of the same car.

Yeah I had the valvecover done also but it lasted me about 40k miles. I just ordered a bolt and hope that works, if not i'm thinking bnr also. Good luck..

I dont know about the pcv fix, I did mine myself. I believe the new turbo is just a KO4 with better seals.

I don't think the K04 have better seals. I remember that the orifice holes in the oil banjo bolt was changed.
