Default So my turbo ingested a sheet metal screw :(

Long story short I hit a coyote on the highway xmas eve and my AEM CAI broke in half during the process. I got a Corksport Stage II set up as a replacement and installed it at the body shop on wed. They took my car around yesterday to get it alligned and I drove it home last night and it starts to run like shit / make a funny noise.

At first I think its a vac leak as it felt this way when my BPV was leaking. My buddy and I started to trouble shoot and upon pulling off my air filter I found this. Obviously my turbo is shot, right now i'm trying to gather if my engine may have ingested some off the metal? The car runs (poorly) although I havent started it since bringing it home last night. Hopefully its just turbo damage and my engine is fine because if not i'm going to have a car sitting for several months until I can afford a new one if the shop / insurance / corksport/ wont cover this.

What gets me is that its like a sheet metal screw and everything was sealed from corksport. The only possible thing I can think is somehow it was lodged within the filter from the factory in an area I couldnt see and on my drive home last night it got sucked out?

That wheel is shot, I'd take apart your intercooler piping to check for metal flakes, and also remove the TB to check the IM manifold for metal too..

That really sucks

Would your insurance cover it since it happened in an accident?

I bought the stage II set up new from corksport and was having another issue with some slag in my turbo inlet so the build quality is already in question.

The current corksport intake wasnt damaged in the accident it was installed new as a replacement. I'm going to call the body shop in about 10 mins, my insurance after, and then corksport at 9. This literally ruined my year lol.

Time for a new one. Or go bigger. Might still be a good core for a BNR

that really, really sucks. i cannot, however, see how it's going to be the responsibility of corksport.

I dont know where else the screw could of come from aside from that it was somehow already in the filter. Either that or it was sucked up when i originally hit the animal and somehow it was lodged in the blades / flew out.

After receiving that poor quality inlet it wouldnt surprise me. I doub they make their own air filters in house though so i'm not really saying it was them. I'm sure corksport makes great stuff but i'll unfortunately never purchase from them again.

What's more likely:

- Because your old intake broke, it sucked up a screw with all that flying metal in the accident
- Corksport left you a treat

Like come on now, the odds are it's as a result of the accident.

So you are upset at a company cuz u bought a part, didnt take time to overlook it before you installed it, got a screw in there from god knows where and its CS fault????

If what you say is true then the filter would have a hole from where the screw was embedded.
Im all for hating on companies but be real. It fell in there while it was being installed plain and simple. Shyt happens and you are not the first or last one shyt like this happens to.
kritz and Voltron like this.

Where am i going to find a sheet metal screw in my engine bay or car? Everything was inspected to the best of my and another persons ability so i'm 110% its not from during the install. I'm not saying they left me a treat i'm thinking that somehow during the manufacturing it got stuck in there like it got stuck INSIDE the filter not came flying through that would be impossible. You cant really see all the insides of a filter due to the opening being smaller than the inner diamater.

I'm just going ot handle it with my insurance and see where that goes.

you're pissed because your car broke and want to make someone responsible for it.

sometimes, shit just happens. if anyone is to blame, it would ultimately be yourself, because you are responsible for what you put on your car.

How would the screw get stuck in @CorkSport; intake? That doesnt make sense, unless it was molded into the silicone. You would see an imprint left over from that in the intake. Inspect it for molding imprints.

Other option is it got sucked up in accident and imbalanced turbo wheel slowly killing it completely.

You install intake urself!

Your engine is most likely fine...the bigger pieces would be caught by the intercooler. Turbo is obviously shot. Good reason now to go bigger and better

Dude, there's nothing wrong with this thread other than you thinking it's corksport's fault. We all hope insurance helps you out, it is damage as a result of the accident.

So now either decide if you want to go full out turbo set up, atp drop in gt/gtx 2871,3071,3076, ect, or a bnr replacement turbo.

Also rinse your intercooler out thoroughly, in the opposite direction of airflow. If it were me, I would take off everything from turbo, intercooler, charge piping, and intake manifold and clean them.

I'm off sunday-tues so i'll probably go ahead and try that out just to start the process of elimination of where the metal from the blades mayyyy have snuck around to. Hopefully insurance covers it as it is plausable that it happened when I hit the coyote. I'd be elated if that were the case as the car was towed to the body shop and hasnt been driven since so I can see that be a possibility.

Nothing in that CS setup uses a screw like that. It actually looks like the screw the factory uses to hold the maf down to the stock maf housing.

Either way, its very unlikely there is a problem with your engine. You'll need to swap the turbo out, but you should ok otherwise.

You install intake urself!

That's what I was thinking when looking at the picture, looks like the oem maf screw.

I hope you get a new turbo, crank it over for the first time, and vent your fucking block to atmosphere. Faggot.

Nope!!! Does not look familiar at all!!! Lol. Mine was in the hot side which blew everything out the exhaust. That sucks its on the intake side. OP regardless of what people are telling you that the engine might be fine... I personally would take the damn thing apart and inspect every inch. There are very tight tolerances in which I would not even try taking chances. All that metal missing from those blades had to go somewhere and guess what? It didn't go out the exhaust like mine did.

ROFL, that was 100% the body shop. Those guys are a bunch of tards, collectively speaking. This case doesn't need Sherlock Holmes to solve. The car was being worked on, the intake was off, and that shit fell in there. Maybe you were just a dick and one of the workers put it in there in retribution or maybe one of those losers didn't like your car.

I would lean towards it fell there and maybe even placed on purpose.
