Wow, how much did you pay for that?

I would be pissed, no exhaust wheel clip on that turbine, thats all the better they could do to the turbine housing? I will be picking mine up tomorrow and show you what we did to the turbine housing. I guess I am not going to have to worry about high quality turbo upgrades.

Please don't take offence to what I just said I was just very excited to see one of these getting done to have my hopes dashed right away with poor work. The turbo should really make great power its just not a "pretty" as I was expecting. Please keep me updated as to what your results are, thanks.

I had Nick rebuild my turbo about 4 months ago and those are the same specs he told me except I thought he had told me 22lbs. Oh well. I picked up my manifold and valve cover up from coating yesterday, and my other magic piece is FINALLY supposed to arrive today, so I should be able to give you a quick brief on that turbo in a couple weeks. !!! Mdogg, If you get yours on first, make sure you fill us in!!!
Oh, and as far as how much he charges, it is MUCH cheaper than going with a turbo kit! Hell with the money I saved doing this upgrade, I have have of my turbo kit money sitting right here. lol

ok..Just talked to Nick at Modernperformanceinc.....here's what he had to say:
5% cut on the turbine wheel
35% larger compressor wheel
Ported and polished the housing
larger/stronger seals than oem
efficient at 24lbs and with the proper tune, the disi can see in upwards of 400 at the wheels. Its all up to air and fuel delivery.
Hope this helps anyone out there that was considering this upgrade.

The turbine wheel doesn't even look like it was bead blasted or cleaned up. You have to do that in order to get a "proper" balance on them when clipping. Sorry guys I am just not buying it right now. I will have Laloosh and 311 post up there numbers when they get our turbo.

from what I see so far, the pauter rods and arias pistons are the only realy option out there. Help me out if you know otherwise. A good buddy of mine has done alont of work on the old 2.3 ford and said he could do it at his shop. Besides, shouldnt changing rods and pistond be pretty much a straigh forward job? Why would it be different?

You would be surprised. Although the concept of changing rods and pistons is childs play, having make experience helps dramatically.

well...he's gonna take his time and do it right. Im in no huge hurry. Ive been on blocks since october, so whats another few weeks? Just want to have a strong as hell, yet reliable daily driver. As much as I love the PG boys, Im not really interested in the thought of having to call them and order a whole new block down the road. lol
So are arias and pauter the way to go?

If your engine builder cant do custom piston work, than i supposed, thats the best route to go.

Myself, i have access to a lot of crower stuff including some trick ass custom & coated pistons. But, these require precise trimming and knowledge to toss in a mazda setup. When i do my engine, its going to be sleeved and big bore. I want max cubic inches. Notice the new MZRs are now 2.5 liters?

wow, that would be awesome! Of course then you're looking at new tranny, clutch, axles and god knows what else. Im already about 9K into this damn thing. lol
I basically just wanting to do the stronger rods and pistons for peace of mind. I dont want to end up pushing our skinny little rods too hard and end up blowing my block to pieces. Just want it to be strong enough to handle my mods on a daily driver, my normal "spirited" runs and the occassional night at the strip.

we had the Arias pistons and Pauter rods matched to each other so they only work with each other and we have exclusivity on the pistons. Some people are trying to sell the regular 2.3 shit as DISI parts but it wont work at all. one thing to note is not to use traditional ring gaps on these engines. you have to use a tighter gap because of the lower temperatures associated with Direct injection and all aluminum. The factory ring gap is extremely tight I don't remember it off hand. And it seems that the new DISI 2.5 is just more stroke. There isn't much room to make the piston bore too much bigger. And as far as knowing Fords I don't think it will help too much here. I've built 5 4.6 motors 3 DOHC and 2 SOHC and built my old SVT Focus 2.0 and they are extremely different than this damn thing in the way they are designed.

There are now 5 of these DISI motors out there built by me and not a single one has had any problems with them (chris' car just had a shitty tuner working on it and they couldn't get it running right) I've also built a few of the regular 2.3's and Protege motors.
