Default Stupid BOV Questions

Hey everyone. I am buying a 2007 Speed3 hatch today (so obviously I'm new to the scene) and I had some questions about it. I have googled a lot of stuff and have learned quite a bit. But my specific question hasn't really been answered.

So the Speed 3 has been modified a bit. It has a front mounted intercooler, and what the guy says is a Hks BOV. First of all, it took me like 20minutes to figure out that BOV even means blow off valve. I know old cars, and wrench on my jeep crawler, but this turbo/computer stuff is new to me. Anyway, I drove the car and the BOV was loud (which I don't particularly care about) but the car seemed to decel superfast right after a shift as soon as I let off the gas. Made it a pain to drive slow. It kept lurching. The guy says its because of that BOV. But I want a little more clarity, and I don't want it to do that.

He says its a Hks, but from all the pictures ive seen it looks more like a Forge. (this is where i sound clueless) It's sitting there just releasing into the air. There's a tube that looks like it should go right on the valve, but its capped and apparently does nothing.

So my questions. First, how do I get it to stop lurching. Second, would it solve my problem if I just plugged that capped tube up to the BOV? Third, if I put that tube on that BOV is it gonna explode or something weird? Fourth, is this actually a big problem and I shouldn't buy the car. Let me know. If there is anything else you guys think I ought to know, please fill me in!

Thanks everyone! I appreciate it.

First, read your welcome PM. There's a ton of great info there, including what to look for if you're buying a used MS3. There's also info on what all the acronyms mean.

Your bov problem might be easier to figure out of you post up some pics. The HKS doesn't really look like a Forge at all.

You have a Jeep crawler, I support you

Anyways, how fast is the deceleration? And no, don't plug the hole on the BOV

I know the hks doesn't look like a forge, if I had pictures I would send them, but like I said, I'm buying it today. So I don't actually have it yet. But it is definitely not an HKS. Also, whne I said plug the BOV, I meant un-cap that tube and connect it to the BOV. I assumed that was how you would recirculate.

BOV/BPV's on these cars are very easy to swap. I wouldn't worry about it, just find a stock one from someone who's changed theirs and put that in.

That said, if it has an FMIC (front mount intercooler) I'd be curious what else is done and if it had proper fueling/tuning.

he's probably right, the lurching is most likely from the bov. I have an HKS on my car VTA and at low speeds I get some lurching. Decel isn't that great when you're moving, car drives like normal just at low speeds and low rpm really. The HKS has a very distinctive shape, you can't miss it. If it's a forge it may not be meant to run VTA which can cause other problems, if the recirc hose is there it's best to hook it back up and see if the car runs better.

Pics would help a ton. Its too bad you dont have any. Yes, BOV or BPV is an easy swap, however, if there is an issue now who knows what else is done, and possibly done incorrectly.

As stated before, where are you located? You might be able to find someone local to look at it with you.

Sacramento CA. Any locals would be awesome. The guy selling it didn't do the mods, so I guuss I can't blame him for not knowing he difference in a Hks or Forge. I'm not sure how long its been running VTA (vent to atmosphere?), if its been a while, what damage could it cause?

For what its worth, the tail pipe is coated pretty heavy in black soot. no smoke when driving, but I heard that this is pretty common. Is it?

Thanks guys, this has already been a big help.

Disi makes black soot.

Running bov without proper tune causes car to run rich inbetween shifts.

With any used speed, you must do a leakdown and compression test or things get expensive. 2 guys just made posts here not checking these first now they are dropping big bucks on repair.

Anyways, i recommend you find some local nator guys.

Read the welcome post, has things to watch for.

Also being modded by a guy who seems retarded scares me. In4zzb.
