just ordered a boost gauge, my friend said i can use his mbc if i want cus he doesnt need it, should i turn boost up a couple psi till i get a tune or am i just asking to get set a-flame by people who know a shit ton more than i do about this? answer question and ill save u from the next rapture that rolls around

If you really want an MBC, you're going to need to read the How To's more carefully. You either need a boost cut defender (nahhhh) or a map clamp (better) in order to fool the computer into not "seeing" the added boost. Otherwise all it will do is hit boost cut and you'll be disappointed.

Best bet: Get the AP.

yes! i made it back b4 flamige!!! i actually did something useful and read a mbc thread and realized....mbc is a not so hot idea, good chances of destroying car, id rather keep stock boost without the ap along with my car than go like hell for about a day and end up with a blown motor. i will just wait for ap

yes put mbc on and set it to like 17psi ....u will be fine ....stock tune has no timing, super rich afr.... fuck man..set the fucker to 18psi... only thing u need to watch is fuel pressure make sure it holds and go have fun

if the ecu with stock map sees anything over 17.4 psi you will hit cut no matter what.. this is fact.

so if the OP wants to hit fuel cut every time he trys to race a gti or civic then yeah sure.. slam that bitch up to 18 psi and have fun smashing your face on the steering wheel.

the stock tune does adjust timing.........

buy an AP and you can set the boost where u want it but even with an OTS tune you should really have someone adjust the map to compensate for more boost. otherwise you may run super lean or some other nonsense and go bye bye.

buy a used AP and use an OTS map alone.... you will feel the diff with that alone.. then raise the boost to 18 psi and you will be even happier and more so when someone fixes the OTS maps for you.

So how was I able to run 19 psi (quick transient spikes to 21 coming up on boost) on stock tune with a catless downpipe/racepipe if it cuts at 17.4? Only time I ever had "cut" was actually spark blow out when my plugs got a lot of miles on them and gap opened up. Regapped them and rolled on -- no cut.

And I did it safely (monitoring) for about 40,000 miles of very spirited driving before getting HT tune. Maybe ECU was seeing something less that my manual boost gauge,

boost gauge will be getting here soon. sometimes i wish i wasnt a poor college kid who could afford an afr gauge...sometimes. this would b a lot easier with an afr to monitor but ill have to boost gauge to keep the boost under controle. ill give it a shot but the first sight of niggas fucking my cars couch ill take it off and come back with more stupid problems for smart people to answer for me!!!! but thanks for the advice

I actually had an MBC and map clamp for a year or so running 18-20 psi with no issues, but I also ran 2 step colder plugs with air/water intercooler and monitored knock and FP with a Dashdaq. If you're going to do MBC, you just have to monitor shit like a mofo. Most of these guys recommend against stuff they haven't even tried first hand...

Only reason I state to go AP is because OP said it was planned anyway. No need to waste money and time selling used stuff if you're going to buy the AP anyway. SO DO IT!!!

OP, I hope you understand that just because certain flow mods like I have allowed me to target 19 psi under load without cut DOES NOT MEAN MBC IS SAFE. You would be bypassing some of your ECU safety protection.
Maybe occasional dragstrip use, with careful monitoring might be o.k. if set no higher than 18. Too risky for steady diet of MBC, IMHO.

Holy fuck, this asshole rele fucked with my shit, I'm not going with the MBC anymore mainly because I'm looking for an accessport now. Some jackass made an account with my name n said it was me just on another account and made me look like an idiot. After doing some reading I found that yes I can run 18 psi because the ems can easily compensate for the extra air flow but I just don't want to do all the capping and shit of the lines if necessary and the ap will let me avoid all that. Ap is safer n I can finally afford it lol
