Turbo #4?

At engine build last, went with a Cp-e "Elevate" turbo and "=LTRmani" manifold. Turbo let go this afternoon in a cloud of blue 20 miles long (to the tuner's garage)$$ It was the 3rd turbo I've used since car was new. First stock turbo burned up @ 15k, Mazda replaced. Second stock turbo tossed in the scrap box at new engine build, 80k. Cp-e doesn't make the "Elevate" anymore (now I know why). Have to pop for another turbo but I'm gun shy of a "big" one cause the engine has about 70k on it now? Precision makes several that will fit my current plumbing but I'm not very knowledgeable. Anyone have much appreciated suggestions? Thanks

define engine build.... do you mean stock internals or an actual BUILT engine? If the latter then it doesnt matter you'll run out of fuel long before you 'run out of forge'. The next questions is how exactly do you keep roasting turbos....

Wiseco pistons, Pauter rods, BS delete, Clevite brngs, Cp-e hpfp, Deatschwerks in tank fp, Cobb tune. Cobb catted DP. Just want to replace the turbo without changing everything again.
$$$. Need something that will fit the Cp-e manifold/Cobb DP/Sure Sidewinder intake plumbing

CS turbo unless you are shooting for 450+ whp.

The BNR series has done well. Don't know about with your manifold.

I run the small BNR Stage 1 which has stock K04 flow characteristics (slightly better, but not much), purely because stock turbo and replacement K04 both smoked.

I run catless 3" dp/rp among my modest mods, so that probably aggravated the issue. No smoke now.

Maybe a BNR Stage 3 for you, if it fits your manifold?

A precision won't fit a mazda flange manifold needs to be Precision Vband or T3 etc depending what housing option you go for. But they don't do OEM Mazda flanges.

Also are you using the correct oil feed set up and not over or under oiling the turbos that are blowing up.

Turbo 1: blown @ 15k
Turbo 2: tossed @ 70k
Turbo 3: blown @ 70k

he's gettin a lot of miles out of these turbos, so it's not like he's a turbo slayer like @bmylez;

Yes. 70k on the stock K04 given the OEM incompatibility with the crankcase ventilation system is typical of normal use. He's not been abusing his equipment.

He just needs a turbo with better bearing seals and whatever power level he chooses. That's why I suggested something in the BNR series with the flow he wants. They are a known quantity here, proven performance and reliability from a custom shop in the Birmingham, AL area with a great reputation. They collaborate with another company there that has been building turbo drag cars for decades.

With forged internals it simply doesn't make sense to stick with a small big turbo like the S3. I'd get the S4, CS, or better a GTX (the gen2 GTX3071R has awesome spool characteristics, better than the gen1 GTX3071R which is already pretty good for both 450+ and normal city driving).

Ha ha. Guess I need to renew my VIP status. Still have my like new after 10 years of ownership mildly modded MS3. Not my daily drive now but great weekend fun.

Yeah, with the built engine OP can go big turbo if he can live with the lag.
