TurboXS intercooler on!.. impressions

I'm done installing my TXS FMIC- I started the car after checking over everything and I'm getting this weird noise around my power steering pump. Like Driver, I lost a good amount of power steering fluid during the swap of the power steering cooler. I filled it up with some Prestone power steering fluid and that was it... maybe air in the lines? IDK but it doesn't sound like it should.

What could it be? How should I go about to fix it? I've still got the bumper off

Nvm. It was trapped air. Fixed it. Off for a test drive

Mine did the same thing. Took a minute to go away. You will love it. That fmic is a big bitch and fits excellent.

To fix it I took the cap off of the power steering reservoir and let it run- the air bubbles came to the top- I also added some more fluid.

The fit was surprising. For as big as this thing is, everything lines up well- especially for not having instructions on the box and not many pictures to go from.

The test drive however... it sounds a lot different- better. And it's more laggy. But honestly, it feels a tad slower than before. I will admit that I only drive it 10 miles, and I got on it 3-4 times, but I wasn't impressed. So the ECU may need to learn this or I may have a boost leak. I'm building a boost leak tester this afternoon- unfortunately, there is nothing that pops out at me that could make it leak. Or hell, this bigass FMIC may be overkill on my stock-ish car. OOOORRRR my stock BPV is trash.

The way I look at it is like a street race. With the TMIC I had a torque jump against the other car- then it would steadily pull. With the FMIC I lost my jump due to lag but it isn't pulling hard enough to make up the difference.

I have an appointment for the motor mount recall tmrw at 730- then boost leak test- then floggin' on her for a bit to see if the ECU learns it- maybe some pictures... who knows.

you should know by now... if shit aint working it isnt cause the ecu is still learning.

its cause its broke.

I told you that your car felt different from mine.... quick response is gone... welcome to the world of high end power. now you need to turn up the boost for it to really help. then you'll see it on the top end

I guess- it's not slower, just not 10-20-30whp faster. I hope I have a leak. And I hope the leak is from one of the clamps that I can reach without taking the belly pan off. If not, my gf got me a $900 piece that looks good.

I know for a fact the car is faster with it. I raced someone before and after. 3 car difference with no other changes. Car does lose that bottom end hit your talking about though. I like it that way. Gets rid of tire spin.

hey your wanting a bigger core rite? can't u just buy a bigger core from a local performance shop and pull a switch?

It may be possible you lost a pound or so of boost because if the extra piping.. do you have a boost gauge? I hope you do! I installed one 2 weeks after I bought my car. I stock a wide variety of gauges, they are a MUST for every turbo car!

I just put mine on as well and the car isn't any faster and I lost about 1-2psi. With my boost controller set to where I normally hit 17-18psi i'm only hitting 15-16psi which I was expecting. I did make a boost leak tester and I don't have any boost leaks. The welds around the bpv flange were leaking on mine so I had to get that fixed myself because of the poor customer service turboxs provided. They still haven't called me back or emailed me back....I only have a test pipe, intake and boost controller..so I figure the intercooler will really shine once I finish my exhaust and up the boost some more

If anyone has the turbo smart boost controller with this intercooler how many clicks are you at?

I have no boost controller and I am at 16-17psi. I did see about a 1psi drop with it but pulls harder none the less.

I didn't notice much lag though....it still eats though the tires...lol. And I have to get rid of the stock bpv....That is where I think i'm loosing most of my boost

Oh boy. Lesson learned...

I boost leak tested this thing. I built me a boost leak tester and hooked it up to the turbo inlet pipe right after the intake (I know now, that's a no-no). I turned down the air compressor to between 10-20psi and unplugged it just in case. I attached the hose to my tester and filled her up... no leaks... no leaks... POP!

What was it? All my intercooler piping was intact. After some inspection, I see I blew my inlet pipe off at the turbo. I had to let the car cool before working on it, but I figured I could wiggle it back on without having to take anything off. I was wrong again.

At least everything is good now and I know how to install a turbo inlet pipe if I need to. lol.

For fucking sure. Get the synapse bro, you wont regret it. Shit is sick. If not that get a turbosmart from john at ptp. If I didnt have this one id get that. Chris is running it with very good results.

I may get a free 1st gen DSM bov to try out for a bit- then I'm going for the synapse. I do have a boost gauge, but I dont have it hooked up b/c I dont have a good enough place to mount it. I did do a baseline dashhawk datalog which shows boost...

I actually have a 1g dsm bov that i'm going to put on after the pro solo that is coming up. A different bpv/bov will put me in a different class. I just want to see what that will do..it was free to me too

So chris is running the turbosmart with good results...I was actually looking at that one a while back but now driver is have such good results with the synapse....decisions....

Overall I like the front mount though

I believe in the long run I will see much bigger gains from the FMIC as I plan on going modified K04. Not to mention the ETS units are on quadruple national backorder...thats a little extreme their IC stock for us sucks.

Your IAT reading will not change seeings how your IAT sensor is with the MAF. The IAT is the air going into the turbo...

If I'm not mistaken, the dashhawk and other type readers can pull the data off IAT2 which is charge temp. I don't have mine yet, so I can't verify, but someone was talking about it on 6club.

the problem is that the msd changes versions liek i change my underwear and it never reads the same. My boost temps with the tmic were taken wiht a different version, the new version drops them about 100 degrees lol

I thought OBDII was a standard. The readings shouldn't change because of the software version should they? It'd still reading data from the ECU...

My boost temps dropped over 100 degrees ont he same day from switching versions

if you are going to go with any turbo upgrade, a FMIC will reap you better power down the road. If you have a ETS or you are on the fence about it, just buy one, believe me, someone will always take it off your hands down the road.
