Default Twin scroll stock mount manifold

Hey folks!

here's a first look at my new design for twin scroll T3 or T4 turbo manifold with stock turbo location. It will be available with twin 38mm V-band EWG flanges or you can order it with no EWG for use with the new BW EFR turbos. Passage layout is pretty much settled aside from a little tweaking and perhaps enlarging the passages a little before I go to steel prototype next week.

interesting design, but it appears that the runners get quite narrow especially where 1 and 4 merge

Yes. I have room to enlarge that area substantially but I'm not going to do any more drawing till tomorrow so I'll adjust it then. The passage at that point is actually the same size as the narrowest part of my Caliber manifold which has seen close to 700 hp so i don't think it will need to change very much to satisfy most MZR owners.

You serious?

Steed Speed - Mazdaspeed 3/6 MZR turbo manifolds

How much earlier would, say, a 3076 with a t3 hotside spool using this vs. your standard manifold?

now someone needs to see if a BW EFR Turbo will fit in the stock location without having to locate it closer to the drivers side.

It absolutely can, but the DP would be your problem. The EFRs are about 10" in length from the V band to the inlet.

Easy fix? No. Possible fix? We'll see.

Perhaps someone can do some measuring? I have designed this to go in exactly the same location as stock turbo. I can always move the turbo flange closer to center if that would help?

The advantages from moving the turbo are increase by moving the flange toward the drive side with the EFRs.

Mason's above ^ statement is going to be the case for the majority of the customers.

I would say you will need to make room for something as large as a 35r. I don't see too many people wanting to fit a factory sized twin scroll hamster wheel, or being able to find that many twin scroll housings/turbos smaller than say a 30r.

Also is there any possibility that you could be making this in a top mount design as well?
I would love to finally see a production model of a top mount twin scroll.

Here is where it is at now. Changed which passages go over top and wider passages too.

I'm liking this one and think I'll get going on a prototype now.

Looks simple enough to put a single right on the top where both merged runners are parallel.

How? On the hot side? IWG? I didn't think you could put a single EWG on a twin scroll seeing as the runners remain separate until they actually attach to the turbo/spin the turbine.

I will admit I am new to this, but I don't understand you you can have 2 separate sets of runners and still do a single EWG.

Educate me?

I thought in the top mount thread that dustin made, he said something about not being able to angle the turbo too far b/c the extra length would hurt the twin scroll action?

I just assumed from reading that thread that the further you merged the runners away from the turbine, the less effective the "twin scroll" effect became, or the less benefit you would get from it.

So from that I concluded that adding enough length to place a single EWG would effectively render the manifold "single scroll" rather than "twin scroll"

And from the photos leen has provided, it appears as though the specific manifold has the runners meeting at the hotside - so I didn't see where you could place a single EWG without drilling into the hot side of the turbo itself.

I should also say I had this specific manifold in mind when I made the comment. Not that it matters.
