Default V-band to stock exhaust flange

Hey guys,

I've got a turbo with a v-band exhaust flange, I'm curious if anyone has any experience on using adapters on the exhaust side of the turbo to get it to mate with an existing downpipe? (IE: A CPE DP). I don't want to give up my current DP unless I absolutely need to.

So what I'm thinking is, turbo -> vband adapter <- cpe downpipe. I've been warned about possible flow/turbulence issues. Anyone have any first hand experience on this?

Here's an example of an adapter I'd like to use. The problem with this adapter is that it's designed to be used the opposite way, allowing a stock flange turbo to mate to a vband dp. Can anyone see issues using it the other way around? Does the exhaust side of the oem turbo have studs or are those regular bolts? (does it matter?)

it would push the dp like 2-3in out, so i don't think the cp-e dp would still fit? I thought about this at one point too.

I'll have to check, not sure how much tolerance there is for the dp being shifted a few inches. I did call John at PTP and asked him about mounting the turbo a few inches further away from the dp, but then I guess I gotta worry about my FMIC pipe.....

Just exploring all my options at this point. It looks like I might need to get a custom DP made and dump the cpe unless this adapter (or one like it) works out.

Sell the CP-E DP, get a custom one made... You'll spend less money after you sell your old DP, and the V-band DP makes everything easier to work on...

Breaks my heart, but I might have to... I had it on the car for like 2 weeks before removing it... @#$@#$...

If I do get a new dp, I might as well get the EWG pipe moulded into the dp. Although, realistically speaking, it doesn't sound hard to make an adapter for my current dp (minus the ewg pipe). Decisions, decisions.....

It's all about options. =) ^^ That right there is very tempting and probably the easiest/sure thing, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that someone is running an adapter successfully... The manifold is going to be custom to this turbo anyway, so if the turbo slides over a little bit to make the adapter fit (But still allow the IP to fit), then that's the way I'd PREFER to go, but I think you guys are probably right (Plus John should have most of the manifold made by now.... Although bastard never calls me back to confirm...)

I do agree with the flange, it gives you more options down the road...any concerns about the seals at both ends of the flange?

Not sure... I'm not worried about the vband part, since from my understanding they don't require any gaskets, but yeah, the oem-flange side worries me a bit. What I might end up doing is taking the turbo and the exhaust to a shop and see what they say.

I guess what sucks is that a lot of this really can't be eye-balled and has to be done when the turbo's on the car... I don't think my 1-day downtime goal will be likely. lol

I'm waking up this thread from the dead.

All the V-band DPs I can find are for the MS6. Are there any currently being made for the MS3 or is custom the only option right now?

I'd love to get the V-Band adapter pictured above with a down pipe to use on my stock turbo incase I decide to go big turbo one day.

im with Rich, all ive seen are dp's for ms6. i have a ms3 and need a vband downpipe for my new turbo, one day down time is all i can afford too. BrianGT said to have a shop cut the oem fitting off at a shop and have them weld on a vband. anyone had this done? take long? good price?
